SANFORD - Raymond James Van Der Woude, Jr., affectionately known as "Archie" passed peacefully on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018 at Greenwood Center in Sanford, Maine, just prior to his 82nd birthday.
Born in Paterson, New Jersey to Raymond and Mary Van Der Woude, he worked for JP Patti Roofing Company for 60 years. The highlight of his career was having the opportunity to work on the roof of the Empire State Building. He raised his family in Prospect Park, New Jersey and later fulfilled his dream of retiring to his home in Lebanon, Maine where he enjoyed spending time on his beautiful 40-acre property.
While living in New Jersey, Raymond was an active Free Mason. He had a passion for fishing, hunting, and caring for his tree farm, raising saplings to full grown Christmas trees which he sold to the locals during the holidays, including Nasson Community Center in Sanford, Maine. Raymond was a devoted and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be dearly missed.
Raymond was predeceased by his grandson, little Ken.
He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 61 years, Mary Ann (Cookie) Van Der Woude; his daughters Patricia Van Der Woude and Carole-Ann Chadwick; son-in-law Ken Chadwick and three grandchildren Caitlin, Michael and Jacob; and his two younger sisters Catherine Kretzschmar and Carol Crudele.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18 at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home located at 580 Main St., Springvale, Maine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19 at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, located at 66 North Ave., Sanford, Maine.

It will be the little things that you will remember
The quite moments, the smiles and the laughter.
And though it may seem hard at this time, it will be the memories that will help us continue on.
Remembering all the good times we had in New Jersey and in Maine.
With my deepest Sympathy. May you have peace in knowing that he has also found his peace with God. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
