Bhaskar Urs Obituary

Urs, Bhaskar Born in Mysore, India in 1939, one of six children. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Urs, two children, grandchildren, and extended family. He was Vice President of Advanced Technologies at Hentzen Coatings in Milwaukee, WI, where he worked for more than twenty years. He died in his sleep on November 25, 2014, after visiting with his two adoring grandchildren. He was a proud and proper man, but not above making silly faces to entertain a baby. He was apt to quote Shakespeare and likely to get misty-eyed hearing Paul Robeson sing Ole' Man River. He loved masala dosa, a juicy steak, and a Friday fish fry, in equal measure. He was a Bears fan in a sea of green and gold. He was never one to follow the crowd, unless that crowd was marching for civil rights or protesting apartheid in South Africa. He followed his conscience and marveled at the wonders of science. Bhaskar was a successful chemist and valued his professional relationships. He believed in handshake deals among trustworthy people. He drove a station wagon to work for years because that was the nicest car driven by anyone in the company. He showed up for work everyday, and he believed in the commitment owed to his employers. The Hentzen family steadfastly honored that commitment, even when his health declined severely this last year. Bhaskar placed his family before everything else. He lived to make his family happy and captured those smiles on endless rolls of film. He was not without flaws. But, above all else, he challenged those around him to be better. He will live on in the big and little ways he inspired others. If you feel moved to honor his life, donations can be made to Youth in Focus, an organization that helps at-risk youth through photography. http://youthinfocus.org/ https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/youthinfocus A small family memorial will be organized at a future date.

Bhaskar was like a second grandfather to me. I remember vividly picking lemons from the garden for lemonade and developing photos in his darkroom. I had my first taste of Indian food at his house, and I don't think I've had as good since. I don't think I was every able to outdraw him in "Bang," a showdown game we would love to play. He was always so lively and energetic, even when I last saw him 2 years ago. I am so honored to have known him, and I will never forget all that he taught me about science and life.

Bhaskar taught me to sit quietly and appreciate old Western and classic movies. He knew the stories, could name the music and told me a thing or two about Robert Mitchum that was surprising. For his welcoming kindness, I am grateful. My heart and thoughts go out to you, Gen, Tara and Ravi ~ and to his beloved grandchildren.
