Bruce Froemming Obituary

Froemming, Bruce Robert Age 64, of Lake Forest Park, WA, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2015 after succumbing to a brief battle with lung cancer and pneumonia. He was born on October 10, 1950 and grew up in Shorewood, WI. Bruce graduated from Shorewood High School and received his BFA from Layton School of Art in Milwaukee, WI before earning his MFA in Painting from Syracuse University. He began teaching art at Syracuse University prior to moving on to the former Milwaukee School of Art (now MIAD) and later the Kohler Arts Center in West Bend, WI. After teaching art for 10 years he then went on to work at the Milwaukee Art Museum before moving to Seattle 30 years ago. He started his career in finish carpentry and residential remodeling which he pursued for 25 years before retiring two years ago. As a long time lover of tribal textiles, he enjoyed traveling to Istanbul to pursue his interest in collecting Lakai and Kungrat embroideries. He was a member of STARS (Seattle Textile and Rug Society) and was passionate about researching and unraveling the history and messages hidden within the Central Asian textiles he loved. Bruce was the beloved husband of Nanci (Millpointer) Torcivia and they shared 15 happy years together. Bruce was the older brother of Curtis Froemming, Milwaukee, WI, and step-father to Nina Torcivia (I Made Sudita) and proud "Steppa" to Dewi Torcivia, all of Ubud, Bali, Indonesia. He was the brother-in-law of Todd Millpointer, Oconomowoc, WI and Mary (Thomas) Retzlaff, Oconomowoc, WI, and uncle to Zach Millpointer, Oconomowoc, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger G. and Pearl E. (Buxa) Froemming. A private celebration of Bruce's life will be held on August 2nd from 2-4 PM at the Froemming home for his family and friends.

Bruce was a good friend and former coworker. I am stunned that he's gone. He was a real expert in rugs, textiles and other art. He had a good sense of humor and irony. What a huge loss. You have my deepest sympathies.

Dear Nanci - I was so surprised and sadden when I saw Bruce's obituary. My Faith leads me to believe that our passing isn't an ending but a beginning. While I never got a chance to meet Bruce, I know how happy he made you. Stay strong and if there is anything I can do to help, please let me know. God Bless Bruce Robert Froemming...

We always considered Bruce a member of our family, even after he and Kathryn broke up. Bruce would write Carol a letter every year and enclose it with his Christmas Card. However, we did not hear from him this past Christmas. Bruce was the type of person who will be remembered and missed on a regular basis by family and friends.
We will be out of town August 2nd, and would have liked to have been able to participate in his Celebration of Life remembrance.
