Daniel Hartwig Obituary

Hartwig, Daniel Age 76, of Brookfield, was surrounded by his loving family when he lost his courageous battle with brain cancer on January 2, 2009. He was the devoted husband of Janet for 53 years, the wonderful father of Laura (Peter DePuydt), Michael (Amanda), Scott (Mary), Paul (Lisa) and Karen, and the loving and cherished grandpa of Danielle, Matt, Emily, Jackie, Natalie, and Allison. He is further survived by his sister Dorothy (Jerry Bisek), and many other friends and relatives who will miss him dearly. Daniel graduated from West Allis Central High School in 1950, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1954. He married Janet (Stroh) on July 30, 1955, in Milwaukee. The owner and president of Hartwig Exhibits from 1955 to 1998, Dan was a nationally recognized leader in the exhibit industry, and well known for his integrity in business. Daniel always lived life to the fullest and was an avid skier, skater, biker, golfer, sailor, and roller-blader. He loved spending time with his family, camping, wining and dining, photography, classical music, and Brewers baseball games, and was known for his keen sense of humor. After retiring, Dan and Janet enjoyed traveling and cruising the world, and he pursued his interest in painting. Following private interment, there will be a memorial celebration of Daniel's life at the South Reception Hall of the Wisconsin Memorial Park Family Center, 13235 W. Capitol Dr., Brookfield, WI, 53005, on January 16, from 4:30PM to 6:30PM; please use the Family Center's east entrance. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dan's name to The Care-Age Activity Department, Care-Age of Brookfield, 1755 N. Barker Rd., Brookfield, WI, 53045; or the Lymphoma Research Foundation, 115 Broadway, 13th Floor, New York, NY, 10006.

Dan was an inspiration to me and always amazed me for his positive attitude and determination. We golfed every Friday that we would both be (in town) and if it was up to him, we would golf every month of the year if there were open courses. He always referred to his country club (Greenfield Park) as the place to go. He was missed this last year and will be missed in the years to come. May we meet in heaven to walk nine holes whenever we want, where the weather is always great. Our most sincere sympathies... Fred & Colette Bohlmann

Dan, was such a wonderful friend, he will be missed but not forgotten. Let's try to remember that time will eventually ease the sorrow for all of us. May it bring comfort to let you know our sympathy and warmest thoughts are with you. He will always have a place in our hearts.
With Love to all, Willy and Hilda.

Dan was my Father's cousin, I only met him a handful of times. What I do remember was his keen wit, his laugh, and his expert grasp of almost any subject. I remeber the time he told me that he knew the Russian language, I still don't know if he was speaking Russian to me or not! Our prayers are with your family.

It is not often we meet or have the honor of knowing a man like Dan. His sense of humor, his laugh, his wit, and all things "Dan" will be with us always. He will be missed but not forgotten. Thank you for your friendship and guidance from a very early age to each time we met.
