David Green Obituary

Green, David L. Passed from this life on August 20, 2014, at age 60 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Dave was one of 4 boys born to Leslie and Bea Green in Daggett, MI. He started his adult life in Milwaukee at 17 without finishing high school but quickly figured out how to survive and thrive through hard work and more hard work. In 1979 Dave started Green's Auto, repairing all kinds of cars in his driveway and later in his garage. He took pride in providing for his family through his strong work ethic, honesty and careful skill. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna, 3 daughters Melanie (Jack) Roepke, Michele (Mark Paprocki), Melissa (Josh Webler), 2 Irish dancing granddaughters, Clara and Eleanor Roepke, many other relatives and friends too numerous to mention and a long list of customers who will miss him for a long time. Dave was a lover of motorcycling, fishing, and gardening, and a devoted fan of the Packers and Brewers. He loved to ride and lived to get back on that bike. Gathering of family and friends at 2:00PM on August 24 at The Patio on E. Howard Ave. Donations to pancreatic cancer research appreciated.

Donna and Family, my wife and I were so saddened to hear of Dave's passing. What started as occaccional waves across the alley, turned into regular conversations and occasional beers. Dave's willingness to share his knowledge and time with me is something that I'll always remember. Although we spoke less frequently, I continued to find myself eyeing his garage door, with the hope he'd pop his head out for another chat. I will miss him.

Donna and Family. We were so sorry to hear of Dave's passing. Dave has taken care of my many cars since the 1980s. I found Dave to always be friendly and very honest. I always enjoyed our various conversations and the occasional beer in the back yard with you and Dave. I was lucky to have spoken to him at various times during his illness and was struck by his upbeat attitude. He will be missed. Sincerely Kim and Kelsey.

Victoria and I are very sorry for your loss. I knew Dave very well and have fond memories of the get togethers in the alley with Leo and his family members too. Dave was a very talented man who could fix any car. I really respected his abilities and honesty in helping me. Joe would have also felt just so sad by this if he were still here. He also always really liked Dave. Please know my prayers are with you as I also know how you feel at this time of loss. I am very grateful to have known your family through living in the neighborhood. Kathy & Victoria Peters

Donna and Family,

I am so sorry for your loss.

When Dave and Donna first moved in "up north" We thought, oh geez.. a long haired Harley Dude... what is to come of the neighborhood... but it turned out that we all came to adore the guy with the long hair, thick beard, and a wonderful smile. Dave was so kind and hardworking, who loved his family. He and Donna watched birds with me and his love for gardening always amazed me. I remember, he even saved a bunny, cherishing life as is was. There are so many great memories and I thank both Dave and Donna for that. I regret not making the effort to see Dave and Donna since I left the neighborhood.. and I am deeply saddened by his death. Will always love you guys.. Donna, your “up north” friend.

Donna and family,

While we new that this day would come it is still incredibly sad to know one of the good guys leaves us much too early. Through Mark and Chris I got to know the Green family (and yes he worked on my cars) as down to earth and caring people.

No matter what kind of mood you were in, when you cross pats with DAVE THE NEIGHBOR you were in for good times. Salt of the earth, direct, honest, hard working and fun loving, Dave had a rare mix. Truly one of a kind.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

God Bless
