Diane A. Smits

Smits, Diane A. (Nee Verheyen) Diane died on July 19, 2010, at the age of 64, at her home in New Berlin, WI, after a courageous 12 year battle with breast cancer. She was the daughter of the late Lambert and Mathilda (nee Spietz) Verheyen. She married Robert Smits, Sr. on October 1, 1966, at St. Boniface Church in DePere, WI. Survivors include three sons, Kevin Smits, Jeffrey (Heidi) Smits and Robert Jr. (Janna) Smits; three sisters, Helen Tauscher, Elsie (Marv) Janz and Norma Miller; one brother, Glenn (Diana) Verheyen; and 5 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, John Tauscher and Roy Miller. Of special note is the 19 years she worked at Vocation Central in Hales Corners for the Priests of the Sacred Heart, retiring from her position due to disability. Our special thanks to Heartland Hospice, who cared for Diane for the last four years, especially nurse Ursella, Sr. Ellen, aide Donna and Dr. Yee Cheng and nurse Jean. Visitation at the Funeral Home on Friday, July 23, at 6-8PM, concluding with a Prayer Service at 7:45PM. Additional visitation at HOLY APOSTLES CATHOLIC CHURCH, 16000 W. National Ave., New Berlin, on Saturday at 10AM until time of Funeral Mass at 11AM. Rev. Ken Smits, OFM Cap. (Diane's brother-in-law) officiating.
