Edward Stites Obituary

Stites, Edward L. Of Washington, D.C., died on Wednesday July 7, 2010, at the age of 79 years. Ed was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. At the age of 18, he joined the Army and proudly serviced his country during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. During his time of service he was awarded four Bronze Stars, The Air Medal and multiple awards for Military Merit, all for outstanding meritorious service in connection with military operations. Upon retirement from the Army, he spent 26 years working in the Middle East. After returning to the United States in 2002, he took up residence at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington D.C. until the time of his death. Ed is survived by his niece and nephew, Patricia (Gerald) Freitag and Robert (Jean) Wilker as well as their children and grandchildren. He will be remembered as a very special and loving uncle. Ed is also survived by other family members and friends. Services to be held on Tuesday August 17, at the Armed Forces Retirement Home Chapel, officiated by John P. Goodloe Sr., Protestant Chaplain, with internment at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. Ed's family would like to express a very special thanks to the 3rd floor staff of King Health Center for being part of Ed's extended family and for their compassionate care.
