Born in Madison, Wisconsin, Gene grew up in Chicago, graduated from Lane Tech High School, and spent most of his life in the Chicagoland area. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Gene served his country in France during World War II. For many years, Gene was involved in Scouts of America, serving as a scout leader for his sons' Troop 835 in the Chicago Area Council's Trailblazer District, where he led countless camping and hiking trips to destinations throughout the midwest, as well as to Philmont and Valley Forge. He worked for years as a pedorthist before retiring to pursue his many interests. Gene was a talented woodcarver and member of the North Suburban Carvers, often participating in woodcarving shows and donating his work to support local charities. He was an avid gardener, stamp collector, and involved in local theater for many years. Gene was married to Marilyn (nee Levee) Lebovits, and they celebrated 55 years together until she passed away just 30 hours before Gene. Both Gene and Marilyn were active members of Temple Chai in Long Grove, Illinois, where they served on the board, and volunteered at food drives, homeless shelters and during holiday services. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Marilyn, mother Fanny, father Andrew, sisters Irene Gregory and Katherine Jenkins, step-daughter Michelle Lovejoy and daughter-in-law Virginia Gregory. Gene is survived by son John Gregory and step-daughter Sheryl Pascoe, as well as son Fred (Liz) and daughter Susan, grandchildren Erin (Larry) Gard, Patrick Gregory, Kerry Gregory, Jennifer Pascoe, Joshua Pascoe, Megan Gregory, Kelly (Patrick) Hawks, and four great-grandchildren. So sorry to hear of the loss of both Gene and Marilyn. It was a blessing I believe for both of them to pass away so close to each other. We spent many wonderful celebrations with them both, Gene´s 90th birthday and many others as members of their Havarrah. They will both be sorely missed. Used to enjoy listening to Marilyn sing in the choir, also. Fondly, Biv
