Helen Probst Obituary

Probst, Helen C. 92, of New Berlin, Wisconsin, formerly of Benton, Wisconsin, died Thursday, June 7, 2018, at Lutheran Home in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. Services will be 12:00 noon Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at St. Patrick's Church in Benton with Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 10-11:45 A.M. Wednesday at the church before the service. Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Benton is in charge of arrangements. Helen was born on May 9, 1926, in LaMotte, Iowa, the daughter of John J. and Etta (Marcus) Nemmers. She was a graduate of St. Rose High School in LaMotte. Prior to marriage she was employed as a secretary to Bishop Waters at Loras College. She married John Probst of Benton, Wisconsin, on June 7, 1952, exactly 66 years prior to her passing . Helen resided in Benton, Wisconsin, as a homemaker and devoted mother and wife until her husband's death on September 4, 1998. Subsequent to his death she resided briefly in Stoughton, Wisconsin, and later in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, and New Berlin, Wisconsin. She was very artistic and talented at sewing, knitting, crocheting, various forms of needlework and music. She was church organist for St. Patrick's Catholic Parish for many years and piano accompanist for the Benton High School Choir. Helen had a special passion for dogs, especially for her beloved dachshund, Schnapps. Upon her husband's death and her relocation to the Milwaukee metro area suburbs, she was able to enjoy her love of concerts, theater, art and fine dining. Helen was able to enjoy both country and city living to the finest. She was primarily devoted to her family. Survivors include her daughter, Jane (spouse, Donald Olson) Probst, of New Berlin, Wisconsin; two sons, Alan Probst, of Alexandria, Virginia, and Gary (spouse, Karen) Probst, of Hartford, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Clarence Nemmers; and a sister, Josephine Nemmers. Memorials may be given in Helen's name to the American Heart Association. Special thanks to Jamie at the Lutheran Home in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, for her special care in the extremely short time Helen was in her care, to Roxanne, Jacqui and Catherine at the Prohealth Regency Assisted Living Center and to Waukesha Memorial Hospital for their great compassion and care in her time of need.
