Henry Knell Obituary

Knell, Henry J. Age 92. Of Crystal Lake, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2008. Born June 16, 1915 at St. Mary's Hospital in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. He was the sole proprietor of Knell Scrap Iron & Metals in Woodstock, Illinois for 60 years. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy Seebees in the Philippines and in the U.S. Navy Band. Henry was an athlete of considerable local fame, an avid golfer and tennis player, and a member of the Woodstock City Band for 62 seasons. He was the beloved husband of Ann and the late Shandes. He was the loving father of Charles, Judith, and Linda. Henry was the treasured step-father to Lynda, Jeane, and Robi. He was the cherished grandfather of Paul, Eric, Sarah, Ryan, Shayna, Andrew, Olivia, Jennifer, Michelle, Beth, Lynn, Ari, Daniel, Adam, Noah, Evan, Michael, Sam, and Elias and the loving great - grandfather of ten. Services 2:30PM on Tuesday, June 17, at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. Interment at Bluff City Cemetery in Elgin. My heart felt sympathy to Henry's family. I knew him for 70 years. In the spring I could hardly wait for him to open up his business so that we could visit and talk about the "old days". He was a wonderful man and a great friend. Jim Ogle
