Hubert Tschachler Obituary

Hubert R. Tschachler, Jr.

Hartford - Hubert passed away peacefully on December 30, 2020 in Jackson, Wisconsin. He was born on March 22, 1927 in Milwaukee to Hubert Sr. and Anna (Lotz) Tschachler. He leaves behind his wife of 72 years, Gloria (Nuedling), daughters Sharon Paré (Glenn) of Bradenton FL and Susan Maszk of Hartford WI, brother Joseph (Priscilla) of Brookfield WI, sister-in-law Emily Tschachler, and 10 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, son Jon, brother Walter, sister Anna Sciano, and son-in-law Jeffrey Maszk.

Until 2018, when they moved to Jackson Crossings Assisted Living, Hubert and Gloria lived on Pike Lake in Hartford and spent winters in Winter Haven FL.

In 1945 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was proud to be a "Tin Can Sailor" who served on two Fletcher Class destroyers in the Pacific - the USS Hutchins until the end of the war with Japan, and the USS Richard P. Leary.

Hubert had a long and successful 40 year career with the Milwaukee Police Department, retiring in 1991. He rose in the ranks to Detective Lieutenant of Homicide. For several years in the late 1960's and early 1970's he took on a special assignment as personal bodyguard and driver for Milwaukee Mayor Henry Maier. During his tenure with the MPD he also furthered his education, studying Criminal Justice at Marquette University and participating in special training programs at FBI Headquarters in Washington D.C.

Hubert was a very active and driven individual who was completely focused on being the best he could possibly be in every project and activity he chose to pursue. He liked to say he believed in "moderation in all things" and then some; so much so in some cases that his family often referred to him as the "Over-Moderator." He was a lifelong athlete and sportsman and a loyal fan of the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers. He played center on his high school football team and played softball with the Police Athletic Association league. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing on Pike Lake, hunting with his beagles, and taking long hikes. He was a dedicated runner who ran several miles every day for over 50 years until 2016 at the age of 89. He was an avid reader whose favorite genre was true crime. He also enjoyed biographies of figures from American history and always stayed up to date with the current news.

Due to the continuing coronavirus pandemic, a service celebrating Hubert's life will be held at a future date to be determined.

Susan and Sharon,
What a wonderful life story your dad had, he lived a good life.
May he rest in peace.

Thinking of your mom and hoping for the best as she has to complete her journey without her husband. 72 Years, how wonderful.

Condolences to Hubert's entire family.

I recognized the name, and then saw the family resemblance in his eyes and looked for Emily's name -- there is was. What an amazing man. My sincere condolences to family and friends.
