Ilo Meyer Obituary

89, of Grand Rapids, MN, died Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at Grand Itasca Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Ilo was born in Minneapolis on May 31, 1915 to Robert and Clara (Nelson) Carlson. She was a graduate of the RN program at the University of Minnesota. She married Dr. Jules Meyer in 1938 and moved to Grand Rapids. Dr. Meyer had a medical practice in Grand Rapids until called to serve in WWII and again until the Korean War. Ilo then traveled with him where he was stationed at various military hospitals. She and her husband retired to Milwaukee, WI in 1964. She enjoyed time at their home on Prairie Lake for over 50 years.

Ilo established the Visiting Nurses Association for Itasca County. She and Dr. Meyer established a scholarship for a medical or nursing student through the Grand Rapids Area Community Foundation.

Ilo was preceded in death by husband Jules in 1990; an infant son; one brother, Curtis Carlson; and one sister, Marjorie Hallbeck.

Survivors include one daughter Jane (Brice) Jackson of Greencastle, IN; one sister Vera Elmburg of Kansas City, MO; one grandson, Jeffrey; and her beloved companion, Warren Anderson.

Memorial service 11AM Saturday Nov. 6, 2004 in the Community Presbyterian Church, Grand Rapids.

Memorials may be given to the

Milwaukee Rescue Mission.
