I'd like for those of you who know Jim Borchardt to know a little story of him from my life that I will never forget. I was about 8 or 9 yrs old, hanging out with Danny Borchardt (he was in my class) at the Milw. Journal Paper Shack on Fratney St. When we left to go to Dan's house, I got my shoe stuck in between the railroad track and the wood that made the tracks level on the sidewalk. There was a train approaching a couple blocks away, and I joked about not being able to get my foot out. After several attempts, I found it was not a joke. I really was stuck and Danny couldn't help me get it out by pulling as hard as he could. Danny said his brother was at the Fratney St. school playing basketball so he ran to call him. Now the train was less than a block away and I was panicking. Then I saw Jimmy running like there was no tomorrow. I never saw anyone his age run that fast. He was willing to run to my aid dispite putting his own life and limbs in jeopardy. By the time he got to me I had tried untying my shoe and managed mto yank my foot out of the shoe just seconds before he got to me. The train was less than 50 feet away. I never forgot how brave I thought he was and how he put my safety before his own. That spoke so highly of his character and willingness to help others as a young 14-15 year old boy. We can all be proud that we knew him, and certain that he is in the presence of the Lord now. Dan's friend, Bill Kraemer, Beavercreek, Ohio
