James Laik Obituary

Laik, James M. Age 73, formerly of Milwaukee, WI; passed away peacefully on January 14, 2014, in Valparaiso, Indiana. Jim is survived by his devoted and loving wife Judith (nee Alpner) Laik; and his three loving children, Colleen Laik, Christine Miller (Steve) and Brian (Jill) Laik. He was a wonderful grandfather to Nathan, Ian and Ned Miller. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Himmelspach and brother, Ed Laik. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Gladys (nee Rathman) Laik. In addition, Jim leaves behind a host of other close family and friends, too numerous to list. Jim proudly served in the United States Marine Corps; and was as an expert marksman on the U.S.M.C. Rifle and Pistol Team. Following his military service, he dedicated 50 years working in the fire protection industry. He was a member of the Sprinkler Fitters Local 183. Jim was a friend to many and treated everyone he met with kindness and respect. A private memorial was held with his immediate family.

Misses Laik, I don't know if you remember me, I gave you and Jim a round redwood picnic table back in the late sixties. At the time I was Jim's apprentice working for Viking Sprinkler Company. Jim was also my school teacher at MATC. I always respected Jim because he was fair and treated me with respect. I looked forward to going to work when he was my boss. He truly was a nice person.
