Dear Gloria and family, and of course, you Jim
I will so miss seeing Jim walking around the cul du sac, smoking his/my favorite tobacco-cherry scented. You brought much laughter into my life whenever prechance we met, and I always made a point of going out to see you Jim whenever you came out so I could feast on your humor. I had no idea of your pranks and fun with your children when you all were younger. These things I will remember when I'm a grandmother someday. Ay, heck, why wait for then?

If this is the James A. Schinneller I think it is, he was an art teacher at my high school in Macomb, Illinois in 1951-52. He was a great teacher and a very funny guy. Sorry to hear that he's gone.
(High school was the lab school at Western Illinois University.)

We lived next door to "Mr. Jim" for the last 7 years. We loved his sense of humor. He always had a funny comment for us as he walked around the circle every evening to smoke his pipe. There's a huge hole in the neighborhood now without him.

What a remarkable tribute to what sounded like a very happy and love-filled life. Mr. Schinneller's family is very blessed to have had him and his wonderful sense of humor. My condolences to his family during their time of grief but my appreciation for their senses of humor.

After reading about Mr. Schinneller on Neowin.net and his obituary, I had to see it myself. It's people like Mr Schinneller, and his fun loving family and friends, that make this world a better place. May the Family know that millions around the world will be keeping them in their thoughts now.

I had no idea that all your goofy little quirks would leave such wonderful memories. You inspired people in life and, amazingly enough, in death. I would be so grateful to achieve half of what you've accomplished in your lifetime. I love you grandpa! You will be greatly missed!

I laughed through tears when I read the story about your father in the newspaper. I've decided that the way he lived is exactly how I want to live my life. To be unapologetically funny, care-free and kind-hearted. He knew what I have only recently come to realize: LIFE IS TOO SHORT! LOVE YOUR FAMILY, MAKE PEOPLE LAUGH, AND MAKE THEM REMEMBER YOU ALWAYS...

Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to meet Mr. Schinneller, but obviously this man had a wonderful sense of humor and a unique love of the unexpected. The photo in his death notice I think said it all about the man! I loved reading about his one-time holiday, 'Festival of the Candles' and throwing 1,000 dollar bills down the stairs to the delight of some screaming children! The world would be blessed to have more men like this to show us what fun life can be and to take the time to tweak 'the normal' to make it just a little more special. I am so sorry for your loss, but thank him for giving me some great ideas! I'm planning a Festival of the Candles for the fall ...

Touching story in the Journal. Sounds like he was quite an exceptional human being. I am sure it would have been a pleasure to know him.

I didn't know Mr. Schinneller, but when I saw his photo in the newspaper, of the back of his head, as if he was walking away, I laughed out loud. If his goal was to make someone laugh, upon his departure.... he was successful.
He must have been quite an individual.
