Joel Marino Obituary

Marino, Joel A. McFarland- Joel Anthony Marino, age 31, passed away on Monday, January 28, 2008. He was an average golfer, a decent musician, and an exceptional businessman. But above all, he set the highest standard for being a son, a brother, and a true friend. Joel was quite possibly the greatest guy ever. We take comfort in knowing that his mother has guided him home and that he is now reunited with her in heaven. Joel was born in East Troy to Nancy and Lou Marino on April 8, 1976. The mold was truly broken that day. In 1986, the family, including younger brother Dominick, moved to McFarland. Joel attended McFarland public schools and graduated from McFarland High School in 1994. He then attended UW-Whitewater, where he majored in Management Computer Systems and was a Charter Member of the Pi Kappa Alpha UW-Whitewater Chapter. Joel earned his degree and graduated in 1999. He accepted a position with Guidant upon graduation and began accomplishing his professional goals. Joel was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Parman Marino; and his grandmother, Bea Marino. He is survived by his father, Lou Marino; stepmother, Debbie Marino; brothers, Dominick Marino and Brian Joyce; his true love, Amanda Miller; sister-in-law, Heidi Joyce; grandmother, Betty Parman; grandfathers, Arthur Parman and Louis Marino, Sr.; uncle, Dan (Beth) Parman; cousins, Ben Parman and Emily (Wayne) Stam; uncle, Ron (Maureen) Marino and their family; grandparents, Jim and Jackie Strope; aunts, Regan, Jonnie, Holly and Marti; uncles, Mike and John; family friends, Hillary, Steve, Will, Joshua, Lisa, Sean and the Miller family; cousins, Jaclyn, Kate and Brandon; and second cousin, Olivia. Joel will be deeply missed by scores of friends, family and associates. All services will be held at Lake City Church, 4909 East Buckeye Road, Madison. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM today, Saturday, February 2, 2008. (Directions from I 94: I 94 becomes Highway 30. Head south on Highway 51, then turn east on Buckeye Road) A reception will follow at the church. It pains me to have to write these words for you. We all love you so much, Joel, and you will be in all of our hearts forever. Olson-Holzhuter-Cress 5801 Highway 51 McFarland, WI (608) 838-0655

I was deeply saddened to hear of this tragedy. There are no words I can say to express my sympathy for Joel's family and friends. I can only offer my thoughts and prayers to his family, friends and to Amanda in hopes that they are enough. I have so many memories of Joel as I was one of his close childhood friends. He will truly be missed and I will never forget the fun carefree times we had as kids and the wonderful friendship we had continued through high school and into our adult lives. My only regret is that we lost touch several years ago and now I will never see him again at church with his grandparents or visiting in East Troy. I will cherish the memories I have of him and will never forget.

Joel (a poem about Joel)

Joel was a nice, caring, and loving person. He would make everyone smile. Especially me when he taught me how to play Mary Had A Little Lamb on the piano. He also was a right hand man for my mom because she put the handle bars to my electric scooter on wrong. He also fixed our garage door when it was temporarily out of order. You could count on him for anything. I know we are all devastated by his tragic death but now we have another angel watching over us.

We love you Joel and we miss you.

Dear Lou and family,

We were shocked to hear about Joe. Both our kids, Nick and Becky, heard the news on the radio. Nick checked into it further to confirm this was his childhood friend. We are so very sorry for your loss.

Dearest Marino Family and Friends,
We had the privledge of meeting and becoming friends with Joel through my niece Talya Reilly. He was an exceptional person. Our memories are loving, fun, and now bittersweet...One of the best memories is him playing and singing Billy Joel's "Piano Man" at our wedding reception. He made us all so happy that evening, and certainly was a huge factor in our guests rocking and rolling late into the night...JOEL WILL BE GREATLY MISSED! Our Thoughts and prayers are with you, and yours.

I am very sorry for your loss. I have played hockey with Dominick growing up in the McFarland hockey Association. I didn't know Joel but I do know Domo and it's always more sad when it's a family that you hold in high regards. Please contact me if there is anything I can help out with. Flyers or anything.

I knew Joel very well throughout the course of my life, and I enjoyed every second of it. He was the kind of guy that you loved to be around because his presence brought happiness to everyone. He is someone I considered a role model; taking life in and enjoying every moment in both a personal and professional matter. I hope to see you again someday buddy, I'll always love you Joel, and I know you'll be watching over us.
