Fr. John D. Cuddigan

1929 - 2017

Cuddigan, S.J., Fr. John D. Was a member of the St. Camillus Jesuit Community and was called to Eternal Life on May 30, 2017. He was 87 years old and a Jesuit for 67 years. He received his master's degree in history at St. Louis University in 1958 and his Ph.D. in history from the University of Minnesota in 1968. His teaching career began at Marquette High School in Milwaukee in 1956. After he received his doctorate, he taught at Creighton University, Omaha, NE, and Gonzaga University, Spokane, WA. He served in several administrative posts at Rockhurst University, Kansas City, MO; Wheeling Jesuit University, Wheeling WV; and the Diocese of San Diego, CA. In 1987, he was missioned to do pastoral work, which he continued until shortly before his death. He served in parishes in Minnesota, California, and Wisconsin. Fr. Cuddigan was born in Anoka, MN, December 21, 1929. He attended grade school and high school in Minneapolis, MN. After one year of college at St. John's University in Collegeville, MN, he entered the Society of Jesus in 1951. He was ordained at Gesu Church in Milwaukee, WI in 1962. He is survived by one brother, William, of Burnsville, MN. A brother, James, and a sister, Mary Murck, predeceased him. There will be a visitation in the Court East Chapel at St. Camillus, 10100 W. Bluemound Road on Tuesday, June 6, beginning at 6:00PM until the time of funeral Mass at 7:00PM. Inurnment will take place at Calvary Cemetery at 9:00AM on June 7. Memorials may be sent to Midwest Jesuits, 2050 N. Clark Street, Chicago, IL 60614 with a notation "In Memory of Fr. John Cuddigan, S.J."
