John was a pretty decent guy. We both helped each other out quite a bit. We had both a professional & personal relationship & both proved to be.....interesting to say the least! I did not share his religious beliefs which was very hard for him to accept at first but then later he finally did. I dare say that I think he found himself quite surprised upon his death however!! That said, I wish him well!

In my days at Marquette in the early 80's, John was a huge part of my growth and maturing. As we went through Design for Discipleship, Friday night studies where we took turns leading with other guys, Tom Acre, Tim Scanlon, (Fred)Rick ?, Russ Solem, Jerry Mulanney and his brother, and others and then heading to Benjamin Too's downtown. The fellowship and grounding he gave me was often great, sometimes frustrating, yet ultimately foundational for my Christian walk.

When I needed advice and wisdom he gave me insights that were timely, godly, and spot on. One of the 4 major humans who influenced my spiritual life and guided me towards pastoral ministry.

John, I just learned that angels came by recently and escorted you to our Father's house in heaven. As you know, the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ, and I am sure you are very thankful to receive that gift, and to dwell in the house of the Lord forever. I look forward to seeing you there some day.

You have had quite an influence on the Christian community in southeastern Wisconsin. John, with all the various organizations and events you've been associated with, I am sure Jesus himself greeted you upon your arrival in heaven with the statement, "well done, thou good and faithful servant." I've known John for over 35 years. He was such an inspiration to me before I knew Christ as my Savior and certainly after I repented and accepted His invitation into my life back in 11/1990. John and Bob C, through the Holy Spirit, led me to Christ to which I am eternal grateful!
John was so selfless...never judgemental, always accepting and full of biblical knowledge. I'm going to miss you brother, you fought the good fight, now you can rest and I'll look forward to seeing once again you in heaven!

John was the best neighbor for almost 30 years. Always kind and thoughtful. We will miss your presence John.

Say hi to Rose for us: she was a lovely neighbor as well.

I'm sure you have far more interesting things to do right now but, John, if you're reading this from your new home in glory, I just want to thank you for your faithfulness in obeying God's call to be the Hound of Heaven in my life some 40+ years ago. As a direct result of your gentle (and sometimes not-so-gentle) promptings to look deeply into the things of God and the claims of Christ I eventually found myself sitting with you in the front seat of a car in the parking lot of the Marine Bank in downtown Milwaukee, where you led me through the sinner's prayer and my life was changed, literally forever. I was spiritually lost. I needed to find peace with God through Christ. And God in his mercy opened my eyes. He did this in a thousand different ways, but the most influential factor of all was you. And since that first step you were always there for me, especially in those early years when my faith could have easily been derailed. You would be the first to say, To God be the glory, and to that I say Amen but you will always have a special place in my heart for your faithfulness and love and friendship. What a blessing to know that we will see each other again someday and resume our friendship in a place where every tear has been wiped away!

John was a special friend of ours who for 27 years stood by our side with Lighthouse Ministries in West Bend. He would always encourage us to continue on with our concerts and events. 272 events later both John and Bob Coklin were at the closing of the ministry. We sure were blessed to have John and Bob at our events and Diane loved feeding those guys. John left a legacvy of encouraging others just like Jesus.
Forever grateful,
Mark and Diane Fechter

John was the most generous man Ive ever known. He was selfless and caring to all. He once gave me one of the most important gifts of my life; a bible. He was a pleasure to work with for almost 20 years. A little part of my heart left with his passing.
