I was thinking about Hilda this week, as I believe her birthday was June 12. My memories of Uncle John and Aunt Hilda remain vivid, and very much valued. They were meaningful presences in my life.

I am a current ACUITY employee and I attended Mr. Holden's funeral service today. I first came to work at then Heritage Insurance in 1981 as a commercial underwriting trainee. A few years later I left to go to a professional baseball umpire school so from that point on he referred to me as the "Umpire". Mr. Holden went on to hire me on 3 different occasions explaining why once by saying "at least you work hard for me while you're here". We always enjoyed talking about baseball & his beloved Green Bay Packers. My wife and I trace our ancestry to some of the original incorporators of present day ACUITY and Mr Holden shepherded the company from those humble beginnings to the current management team. When I thought about returning to Heritage the last time in 1993 he knew I soon would not have a job but he treated me very fairly anyway. You have my condolences on his passing but I wanted his family to know that I was glad to have known and worked for the "Benevolent Dictator".

Sending many thoughts and sympathy to the entire Holden family. We go back many years in our friendships with Don and Blair, all graduating from Reedsburg High together. We didn't have the pleasure of knowing John as well as his brothers, but we enjoyed reading about his life and accomplishments that made an important and lasting impact on his community. We continue to miss Blair and think of him often too. We send our regards to Don.

I count myself fortunate to have had John and Hilda as my dear Uncle and Aunt. John lived a life of professional accomplishment and advocacy for meaningful causes. He was enormously proud of his family, justifiably so. I will miss him.

condolences out to the family. I washed John's windows for years he was a kind man and I always enjoyed working for him and his wife.

I helped Deb and the Holden family with John's care 2 to 3 years ago. He had so many interesting stories to share about life and business. One day John mistakenly called me Byron (instead of Brian) and since then I became "Lord Byron", which was quite a promotion, haha. Many fond memories of the time spent with John at his home.

John was a very sweet man and a wonderful Rotary luncheon buddy. As his eyesight failed he continued to take great interest in the community, and with the support of his friend Debbie, he got out and about as much as possible. He really seemed to enjoy the holidays - especially doing his Christmas rounds, delivering fruit baskets and good cheer. He will be missed.
