John and I were co-captains of the track team at Marquette High fifty-two years ago. The last time I saw John was when we took an Easter break road trip out west while at the University of Wisconsin. We crossed the Rockies in the middle of a snowstorm careening down to Denver with tire chains so loose that they knocked the trim off the wheel wells. Mountain drivers we were not. John was the kind of friend that you could never forget and although I tried a few times when passing through Milwaukee, I never did connect again. Our lives took different paths.

It is something that I regret. John was a kind and decent man with an amazing sense of humor, and I can only imagine what a wonderful family man he would have been.

Rest In Peace dear man.

I am so sad to learn of John's passing. We were good friends at the UW. I always hoped to see him again.

Many years since I last saw John, but I clearly remember meeting him for the first time at the beginning of freshman year at Marquette High in 1963. A cheerful and positive guy at the time, and I am certain that those qualities endured. Sympathy to the family. RIP, John, until the really big reunion.

John was the epitome of thoughtful, caring, generous, kind hearted gentleman. I always enjoed talking Packer and Badger football with John. I will miss him. John was a good man.

Sorry for your loss.
I am thinking of a sunny day last April in Florida, eating brats with John, Patty, Dan, Kay, Lloyd and Kriste. It brings a smile from Kim Zimmerman

John is a person of great character and compassion toward others. He always had a great sense of humor. He left an impact on all those who knew him. My deepest sympathy to the Loebl family.

John was a friend for over 40 years. But it was only in the last few years where are friendship was rekindled through a weekly card game. Just a bunch of Pius and Marquette High grads getting together sharing memories and making new ones. John was the master of all the sports trivia from our high school years and could usually come up with most answers while the rest of us were perplexed.

I will remember, and value, the several private times we shared over the last few months. Our conversations were varied but they usually included the obvious. I was amazed that John never showed any bitterness or any self-pity. More than once I thanked him for making it so easy for us to still share time with him as if nothing was different.

John was a good man. And John was a brave man. This is how I will remember him. But I know that the weekly sheepshead group will help fill the void by remembering John as the " Honorary Valedictorian of Sheepshead Camp "
