Julie Forward-Demay Obituary

Forward-Demay, Julie Of Portland, passed away peacefully at her home on August 10, 2009, surrounded by her family and close friend. She was 37 years old. Born August 8, 1972, Julie spent her childhood in Wisconsin. She was a 1990 graduate of Brookfield Central High School in Wisconsin, and graduated from Colorado State University in 1994 with a major in English. Julie then moved to Portland, Oregon, where she devoted part of her life to children with special needs. For a time, she worked in a group home for autistic children, and also served as a tutor and mentor. She then focused on her writing, became a professional photographer, and owned a record store with her husband. Julie loved the ocean, writing, photography, art, books, and her garden. Most of all, Julie loved her family and friends. Julie was wife and best friend of Scott Demay. Loving Mother of Luka Jane Demay. Beloved Daughter of Dr. Daniel J. Forward (Janice) of Pewaukee, WI and Jane Forward (Richard Bishop) of Oconomowoc, WI. Loved by her Sister, Angeline (Timothy) Cargill of Ixonia, WI and her Brothers Kevin (Natalie) Forward of Wauwatosa, WI and Joe Forward (Jennifer) of St. Louis, MO. Sweet Aunt of Mollie, Owen and Josephine Cargill and Danny Forward. Julie was also loved by her Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and many, many wonderful Friends. As a gifted writer and inspired photographer, Julie left a beautiful legacy of words and photos, which capture the essence of her creative spirit. She also documented her battle with cervical cancer in a journal and touched the lives of hundreds of people across the country. Her courage became an inspiration to us all. "We will miss you, Jules, with all our hearts." A Memorial Service will be held at the First Unitarian Church, 1011 SW 12th Ave, Portland, OR 97205, on Friday, Aug. 14 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at any U.S. Bank branch to the Julie Forward Demay Memorial Fund.

I was so shocked to read of Julie's passing. We had lost touch over the last 10 years, but I will always remember her as fun and full of life. We worked together at Powell's and then were roommates for a year. My deepest sympathies to her family. She will be so missed.

I am so sorry to hear that Julie has passed away. I remember her well from our childhood, she was a very caring and dear girl. Since Julie and I shared first names and middle names, in grade school we were referred to by the teacher as Julie 1 and Julie 2 - I'll always remember her. My deepest respects to all her family and friends.
