June Sauter Obituary

Sauter, June C. (Nee Carlson) Born June 17, 1918, in Marquette, MI and passed away peacefully on Monday, January 19, 2009. Age 90. Long-time resident of Wauwatosa. She was the beloved wife of the late Kendall E. Sauter, M.D. Adoring mother of Judith (Thomas) Titcomb of Wayzata, MN, Kristin (Darioush) Ehteshami-Afshar of Minooka, IL, the late Bruce C. Sauter, Gail (Markus) Sauter-Poschung of Pewaukee and Douglas (Lori) Sauter, M.D. of Wauwatosa. Much loved grandmother of Cassidy (Scott Simpson) Titcomb, Colin Titcomb, Jessamyn Ehteshami-Afshar, Rosalynn Ehteshami-Afshar, Joe Poschung, Blake Shaffer, Alison Sauter and Ellen Sauter, and one great-grandchild, Griffin Simpson. Loving daughter of the late Arthur and the late Judith (nee Rasmussen) Carlson. Adoring sister of Helen (formerly Raley) (Morris) Oxman of Rochester, MN and the late Shirley (the late Marti) Lundstrom. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation Saturday, January 24, from 9:30AM until time of Service at 10:30AM, at WAUWATOSA AVENUE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 1529 Wauwatosa Avenue, Wauwatosa, with a reception to follow at the church. Private interment Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield. June was born and raised in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She was the oldest daughter of Arthur and Judith Carlson in the mining town of Republic, Michigan. Her mother died when June was 13. Her father, a barber, was left alone to raise three young girls. As a result, the three girls would spend the summers in Eagle Harbor, Michigan with Uncle Hans and Aunt Ida Robinson, who was a Lighthouse Keeper for the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse. This was a special place for them and continues to be one today. June's home in Republic, located in the back of the barber shop was modest but full of life and especially music. Without a doubt, June's life was music. As a teenager, she was in demand to play the piano for both the Methodist and Lutheran churches. As an adult, she continued this talent, often found playing and singing on her baby grand piano at home. She passed this great love of music onto her children. June came to Milwaukee after high school to attend business college and worked part-time at Gimbels. She served our country in the United States Coast Guard Women's Reserve (SPARS). She met her husband Ken, on a blind date. They married in 1944 and eventually made their home in Wauwatosa after Ken completed his surgical training. She found great joy in raising her 5 children. She was most happy when surrounded by her family and even more so, when she could be with her two sisters and their families in Eagle Harbor, Michigan. June will be deeply missed by many friends and family. A special thank you to the staff of caregivers at West Allis Memorial Hospital 5th and 7th floors for the loving and tender care given June. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the music and/or missionary ministries at Wauwatosa Avenue United Methodist Church would be appreciated.
