Lynn Turner Obituary

Lynn Turner

Whitefish Bay - Lynn passed away on February 17, 2021. She was born September 27, 1964 at Yale New Haven hospital with Down Syndrome, a condition at the time, that for some led to life institutionalization. At the strong recommendation of the medical staff and concurrence of her parents, Lynn began a life to be as active and independent as possible. She participated in educational, community and Special Olympic activities in Maryland, Washington, California, Delaware and Wisconsin. She was an eager and joyous participant in many sports including swimming and speed skating where she competed internationally. She was also an avid Wisconsin sports fan of the Packers, Brewers and Badgers. Lynn was a long-time member of Plymouth Congregational Church and the Silver Bay YMCA in upstate New York. She spent several summers there volunteering in the Child Care Pavilion where she enjoyed supporting the infants and toddlers. She had a wonderful and lasting impact on her family and those who knew her. The family would like to extend thanks to Dana and Jamal Perry and all the staff at Ideal Community Living for the exceptional care they provided for Lynn in the past five years.

There will be a virtual memorial service on Saturday, March 13th at 10:00 am. A private interment will be held at Silver Bay in August.

Father: John H. Turner; Step-mother: Vicki Keck Turner; Siblings: Molly Turner Scippa (Marcello), John H. (Jack) Turner (Molly), Alexandra Keck, Andrew Keck; Nieces and Nephews: Enzo Scippa, Clyde Turner, Sylvie Turner.

Preceded in death by: Mother, Rebecca (Becky) Snyder Turner Adlam and grandparents.

Lynn would have been 60 years young this year. Our children with Down Syndrome are precious. They teach us humanity. Joyce Peterson

I was blessed to have Lynn in my life. I helped to coach her in swimming with North Suburban and she was a true joy to be around. She coached me more how to be a caring person than I coached her in swimming. I will miss her wonderful attitude, genuine smile and kindness.
