Mary Hammersmith Obituary

Hammersmith, Mary Louise A native of Milwaukee, daughter of the late Paul W. and Myrtle Bishop Hammersmith, and granddaughter of well-known artist and engraver, Paul Hammersmith, passed on September 9, 2008, in Williamsburg, VA. Survived by sister, Carol Porth, Santa Margarita, CA, brother, Paul B. (Donalda) Hammersmith and many nieces and nephews. A graduate of Milwaukee Downer Seminary and Beloit College, she was an accomplished soloist and studied voice with prominent opera singers. She was Assistant Secretary of Hammersmith-Kortmeyer Co., engravers-printers, a company founded by her grandfather. She was also Admissions Correspondent for Principia College. Her many travels led her to settle in Williamsburg, where she was an avid teaching member of the Oxford Shakespeare Society, the group who believes the Earl of Oxford was the true writer of Shakespeare's plays. Private interment was at Valhalla Memorial Park in Milwaukee.
