Maureen O'Neill Obituary

O'Neill, Maureen Tobin She had to leave us far too soon at the age of 59. Beloved wife of John Sr. for over 37 years. Devoted mother of John Jr. for over 27 years. Maureen was a proud Cumberland School, Whitefish Bay Middle School, Eagle Scout, Marquette High and Fordham Mom. Her love of the outdoors was expressed by regular visits to Door County in particular and Wisconsin's State Parks in general. Her son's passion for cities was fueled by her meticulously planned road trips to urban centers throughout Canada and the United States. She loved the fact that her adventurous, passionate and ever constant son was challenged and fulfilled by his work as a City Planner for the City of New York. Maureen was born and raised in San Francisco as the daughter of the late Lawrence F. and Mary A. Tobin. She graduated from Marquette University with a degree in Journalism after serving as the Photo Editor of the Marquette Tribune and the Marquette Yearbook. The first sight of her taking photographs at a Leo Kottke Concert at the Varsity Theater on campus sent a jolt of electricity through John and thus began a 39 year adventure together. Her artistry and intelligence live on in the son that she so adored. She is preceded in death by her Maine Coon Cat Rosalia and her rescued Yellow Labrador Retrievers Coach John Cooper and Cornelius. She is survived by her mischievous Yellow Lab puppy Copernicus who is currently working overtime to console John Sr. and John Jr. Her journey in this life has been completed. She gave her all. She is now at peace. Family and friends will be notified of a Celebration of Maureen's Life which will scheduled for this Spring in Milwaukee.

Dear John (Sr.),

I am so sorry to hear of Maureen's passing. I still have very fond memories of you and Maureen at Mary-Liz and Steven's wedding when i was just a teen. Maureen had such wit and it made a deep impression on me in person, almost as deep an impression as Mary-Liz's photo album, when she came home from college with a section entitled, "The Many Faces of Mo," where she had documented her roomie's tired mornings, late nights, outdoor fun, etc. in photos.

I know nothing can repair the loss but time. I wish you all the time necessary to work through this and come to peace. Leah
