I ran into Kerry and Scott Rise last night and they informed me of the terrible news. Mike was larger than life. I think of Mike and all that comes to mind are smiles and laughter. It is a special person that can have that effect on so many. My prayers are with you Michael.

Michael-
You left us too soon. Your laughter from a thousand great times together still rings in my ears. And it is that same sound of laughter that assures me your spirit will never be forgotten by those who knew you, by those who loved you. It was an honor, my brother, to share those moments. Forever you will remain one-of-a-kind. Rest in Peace, my friend.

When Maureen (Gaffney) Lange called me with the news of Mike's passing it just didn't seem possible. As many have already expressed, Mike was truly larger than life. I knew him since days at Roosevelt grade school. He was genuinely kind to everyone and always had time to make you feel like the most important person in the world when talking with him. His smile and laugh will always be remembered. R.I.P. Mike. It was an honor knowing you.

I am so sad about Mike's passing...in seeing him at our 25th one year ago, his bright smile and friendliness had not changed one bit. The world has lost a gem...but heaven just became brighter. My heart and prayers are with his family and closest friends. Peace.

I have to say that it was so hard to read the e-mail that stated that the class of 86' had lost a friend. Life is just never long enough no matter the age that one is when they pass. I immediately had flash backs to seeing Mike, Scott, and Tony walking down the halls of Tosa East with their sports gear on. I remember Mike's smile, and his laugh. He was a team player...not just in sports but in life. My prayers are with his whole family in this time of loss. When one's life touches another than it is never for not. Mike did just that and he had an impact on all those that came across his path. Rest in Peace.

Sending healing thoughts and positive energy to Mike's family. I grew up with Mike starting at Roosevelt where I can still see and hear the kickball games and climbing the ropes in gym class. Way too young to leave us but he must have other important business elsewhere. You only have to read a few comments to see the wonderful impression Mike left in this life. May you all find peace during this time.My thoughts are with you.

I can't express how much sadness I feel for the Rego family right now. Your loss is one of great magnitude. Though I haven't seen Mike lately, Mike was and will always be like a brother to me. I remember all the fun we had as kids, riding bikes, skate boarding, climbing trees and just getting into the usual trouble that we as kids were suppose to get into. Mike was always fun to talk with and I was always glad and happy to see him when I did. As most people have said, his smile and laugh were infectious. There never was a dull moment if Mike was around. As I sit here and think about Mike, it brings a smile to my face that I had the privilege to grow up with such a great person. Mike you will be missed greatly. Peace be with you and your family and friends.

To all of Mike's family and friends I offer my condolences. Mike was always such a terrific guy while growing up in Tosa. Though I would only see him on occasion in later years, I have fond memories of pool hopping at Hoyt, hanging around the DeMaster house and watching Mike on the gridiron at Hart Park. Milwaukee has truly lost one of it's own.

When I was in 6th grade I was rollerskating down 69th Street in Wauwatosa, when Mike Rego, turned down my street on his bike. I suddenly found myself nervous!! Why? Because it was Mike Rego and he was cute... I just prayed as I rollerskated down the block that I didn't fall on my face in front of Mike. As I turned into my driveway... I heard him say as he rode by on his bike to his friend, "She's a good rollerskater." I was never able to thank him for that compliment (which meant a lot to a young girl). So, thanks Mike. May you rest in God's peace. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. God's peace to all of you.

I went to East with Mike, although we didn't know one another well while at East. I got to know Mike more after high school when he opened Rego's and then the painting business. We had a great crew that made Rego's a regular stop on the East side. Whenever I saw Mike at a paint store or some place on the East side; we'd have great conversation and laugh as if we'd been hanging out for hours. Mike had an infectious laugh, engaging personality, and was quick with a smile. Running into Mike on the East side would be the highlight of the day. My thoughts are with those of you that knew him best. Take care.

World lost a man with a golden heart & a golden soul. Mike was a larger than life guy. I am really going to miss hanging out with Mike around the campfire or the ping pong table at the annual Tosa East guy trip laughing ourselves sick. Going to miss his big personality, his giant smile & infectious laugh. We will always be able to cling to great Mike Rego stories which will provide big laughs, but unfortunately will now bring some tears. My deepest sympathies & condolences go out to Mike's family & all those that loved Mike. Rest in peace.

I doubt my name would resinate with the Rego family as it has been "years" since I have seen or spoken with Mike. I anticipate my guest book signing to be from farther in Mikes Past then most. I attended Roosevelt Grade School, Longfellow and then Tosa East (briefly) with Mike before moving out of state. Are friendship was primarly during our Roosevelt years where Mike was a great friend. He was that childhood friend whom you emulated to be like and always wanted to hang around. Ultimately, adolecence and different intersts took us in seperate directions during our Junior High and High School years. None the less, I was shocked, saddened and heart broken to hear of his passing. I pray for the Rego Family and those who where close and remained close to him. Life may take us in different directions and ultimately we may lose touch, but we never forget and we remain connected in so many ways. God bless you Mike and God bless your family.
Your Friend,
John Schmidt

Michael, why did you have to leave us so soon? To his family...i just want you to really know what a great Son and Brother you had. He touched many peoples lives. He was so proud of his beautiful houses that he painted and the Christmas decorations he put up every Winter. I had the opportunity to spend time with him this past year and my future will never be the same without him. I'm going to miss you Michael!

My captain, always. On Monday night, when I came home from work still in shock from the news I was confronted by one of my daughters. She had heard the news via my wife and gave me a great big hug. She looked up at me and said "Dad I'm sorry about your friend, but Who was Mike?" Obviously she had never met him because anyone that did never forgot their first encounter with Mike's magnetic personality. As I quickly sifted through my lifetime of Mike memories sloshing around in my head, I struggled to put Mike in a verbal form for a nine year old. It came out like this: Most of us carry our emotions inside and guard them. We filter who gets in and what we let out. Mike carried his emotions on the outside. He had no filter. It was his very being, you always knew exactly what he was feeling, it was right there. I've always said and truly believe - Mike had the heart of a lion. My captain. My friend. Godspeed Mike, Godspeed.

What is in a name? Say the name Mike Rego, and I'm certain a smile and chuckle is the response you will get from an overwhelming number of friends and loved ones. That smile and laugh is no doubt tied to a memory of something you did, shared, or went to that included Mike. It's been said before about others, but it is simply true..there was only one Mike Rego. His presence anywhere lit up a room, filled it with laughter, and created a great energy. We cherish all of the "childhood" memories that he was a part of , and even when life carried us in different directions, the bond we forged was never forgotten. I will always remember the pride in his eyes when he opened Rego's. He was certainly in his element there...doing what he did best...greeting you with his shining eyes and brilliant smile. If Mike adored you, you knew it, and he pretty much adored all! We will miss you, our dear friend. You are etched in our hearts always. Our prayers and deepest sympathy are with the entire Rego family.
Sincerely, Kerry and Scott Rise
