We remember the numerous fishing trips my mom (sister to Empie) and dad had with Norbert and Empie in the Duluth area. Our favorite spots were Island Lake or Whiteface Flowage where my dad and mom had a little place on the lake. The guys did not get to fish alone much as the gals also loved to fish and usually caught either the bigger one or more fish.
As we stated in our card Uncle Norbert had a manner of talking to you in a way that you knew at that moment you were his focus of attention. His personality served him well through the years bringing him personal and business success. Over the years as my brother Russ and I grew up we got to know him better and our respect for him increased as a person and not only as a family relative.
Of course my wife Linda and I made the trip from St. Paul Minnesota to Milwaukee with some friends to purchase rings from Norbert and Empie at Ellenbecker Jewelry. Empie would have liked us to purchase an engagement ring with a little bigger stone but Norbert said this one would be just fine and it has been for over 42 years.
We loved the time we got to spend with Norbert and Empie and we are glad on our frequent trips to Florida over the years that we were able to continue to connect with them. Our visit this past February was very special as we also got to see Mark who was also spending time with Norbert. On that day at the age of 98, Norbert was getting ready to go to church with Mark.
We wish to extend our sincere sympathy to Mark and Dale and their families.

Toivo (nephew) and I enjoyed many weekends with Norbert & Empie in Milwaukee. Mark and Dale you were just little guys then back in the late fifties. I always looked forward to his Christmas cards and letter. My sincere sympathy. Katie Kangas
