Norman Maier Obituary

Maier, Norman Raymond "Mr. Cheze" Died peacefully at home surrounded by family in Brookfield, Wisconsin on April 4, 2015 at the age of 87. Norm is survived by his wife Mary Maier, his children Susan (John) Friedmann and Sharon (Ronald) Powell, granddaughter Nicole (Mike Phillips) Christman and grandsons Ian Powell and Sean Powell. Further survived by brothers Jack Maier and Ken Maier. He is preceded in death by parents John and Helen Maier, brothers Ed Maier, Jerry Maier, Leonard Maier and sisters Mercedes Borton and Marge Sonnentag. Norm was born on February 23, 1928 in Thorp, Wisconsin to John and Helen Maier. He graduated from Thorp High School and then the College of Ag and Life Sciences at the University of Wisconsin. He married his college Sweetheart Mary Lee in 1954. Norm was a member of the Army Air Corp in 1946 and then was an inaugural member of the Air Force for the Korean War. Norm took great pride in his 57 year membership in Toastmasters International. He was a founding member of several clubs, district Governor, and past International Director. His passion for the dairy state led him to own the Wisconsin Championship Cheese for 26 years. The visitation is at the Funeral Home from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 9. The funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Friday, April 10 at St John Vianney, 1755 N. Calhoun Rd., with a visitation from 10:00 AM until the service. Interment will follow at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Toastmasters International at https://www.toastmasters.org/About/Ralph-C-Smedley-Memorial-Fund.
