Patrick Madden Obituary

Madden, Patrick J. CDR USNR (RET.) Born May 21st 1926, Died February 18th 2018. The great grandson of Michael and Bridget (O'Connor) Madden, who homesteaded in Waukesha County in 1847 and Michael and Bridget (Enright) O'Brien who homesteaded in Brown Deer in 1838. Predeceased by his beloved wife Virginia (nee Phillips) and his parents, William R. and Rose (nee O'Brien) Madden, his brother Brian (Josephine) Madden and sister Ora (William) Loeffler. Survived by sons Dr. Mark Patrick (Jeni) of Vienna, VA., Michael John of Fox Point and daughter Sheila Anne Casey of Fox Point. Also survived by his brother in-law and best man Patrick (Annette) Phillips . Further survived by grandchildren Shannon, Brian and Reilly Madden and Elizabeth (Corbin Weyer), Sara, Megan, Patrick and William Casey, as well as, nieces, nephews, his special little friends Willow, Maybel and Saylor, and his former son in-law Terry Casey. CDR Madden, a graduate of Marquette and Georgetown Universities, faithfully served our country during WWII and the Korean conflict. It was while serving in the United States Navy aboard the USS Estes that he took part in Operation IVY (Mike), the first test of a Thermonuclear Weapon, in the Marshall Islands. Following his Naval service in the JAG Corps while stationed at the Pentagon, he returned to Milwaukee, serving as an assistant city attorney until being elected in 1972 as a Milwaukee County Judge. He went on to serve as a Wisconsin State Circuit Court Judge. Following his retirement in 1996, he continued to serve as a Reserve Judge for the State of Wisconsin. In retirement, he enjoyed spending time with Family and traveling with his longtime companion Jackie Krill, from the shores of Ireland where he spent time with old friends Dennis and Laura Allman, to his beloved Longboat Key, Florida where he maintained many special Friends at the Privateer North and in Ellenton. The consummate Irishman, he enjoyed gatherings in front of a snug turf fire surrounded by his many friends, with his faithful dog Finn at his side regaling them with stories and basking in the peals of laughter. Visitation will take place on Saturday, February 24, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon at St. Robert's Catholic Church, corner of E. Capitol Drive and N. Farwell Avenue, Shorewood, followed by the celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon with Military Honors. Interment at Resurrection cemetery will be private for the family. Slainte' Pat, (and Madden kids),
Gartha ar do eachtrai' ochta nua'!!

May the luck of the Irish,
Lead to happiest heights,
and the highways you travel,
Be lined with green lights!
Pat, you always had a joke to share, a kind word and hug at just the right moment. You made Aunt Jackie happy!!!
I can hear a WEE bit of laughter from up there and the bawdy as well as those sad Irish songs.
Lucky for you that Dad carried his copy of Hal Roach's corny jokes EVERYWHERE too!!!
All you old friends, Mom, Dad, ( Jeanne and Chuck Taggett), Ginny, Jackie and Dick too, gathered around a piano singing. Your lips are moving, right???
Not sure if you guys are what's meant by the Heavenly Choir???? Well, guess you are now!
Thank you from the Taggett girls, Christy, Muffie and Jodie, and Stewart
boy Alec Roy.

Pat's Family
As a "cop" I had many contacts with Pat, both as a City Atty. and Judge.-- The ever present twinkle in his eye and facial expression as he attempted to conceal his glee could not hide his quick wit and great sense of humor. RIP!!

We have lost a great American who has served his Country and community faithfully and with great honor. God kept this fine Irishman in the palm of his hand and now Pat is in His presence. How awesome!

I worked as a bailiff in his court room for several years. He was always pleasant and kind to all. I enjoyed visiting with him on the 4th of July at Lake Park. He will be missed.

Patrick was a treasured member of our Sunday Night widowers dinner. Always the voice of reason within the group of many personalities. As it shrinks, going from 9 to 2, the group will never be the same. One of the good guys has moved on. A great neighbor and friend. A toast to you my friend.

Dear Michael and the entire Madden family, I am so sorry for your loss. Your father was a great friend to my mother, Rosemary Gernetzke. Because of their friendship, I was able to enjoy many fun times with your dad! I've never met anyone who had a memory quite like his! He was so kind to remember everyones name, no matter who they were, or how long ago it may have been since he had seen them.
All the angels in heaven are celebrating his arrival.
Unfortunately, I won't be in town for the funeral, but I'll be there in spirit.
