I became friends with Paul in the 80's. He was the hardest working man I have ever met and it was always to make things better for his constituents.
He was funny , fun and very generous. He was human too and as we all do, made mistakes and owned them. The last time I saw him we had coffee and spoke of many things and our history as friends. Our friendship never faded as so often friendships do.
I wish him well on his new journey.
Condolences to his sisters and their families. He will be missed.

I was Paul's Assistant until his last days in office. He was a great boss, kind, thoughtful, the smartest man i ever knew. Loved helping people, did a outstanding job. I missed not working for him, but I will miss now we would get together and laugh and talk about the old days. Rest in peace my special friend. You will always be my special friend. Lucy

Paul Henningsen was my alderman when I lived in the Concordia neighborhood during the 70's and 80's. I remember him as a fierce and tireless advocate for his constituents. He was always available, always listened and always responded. Now, many years and a few aldermen later, I have to say that he was the best alderman I ever had. I want to add that I have also battled episodes of depression for the past 40 years. While I cannot condone what Paul did, I can understand how it could have happened. And I think to myself, "There, but for the grace of God, am I." As far as I am concerned, Paul Henningsen's legacy is his nearly 30 years of service to the Milwaukee community. Thank you, Paul.
