Robert McCabe Obituary

McCabe, Robert W., M.D. "Bob" On March 19, 2011, peacefully left this earth surrounded by his family. Adored husband and best friend of Linda (Smallish). Treasured father to Caitlin (Ryan Paugh), Allison (Dave Wells) and Hilary. Robert had a wonderful childhood in Milwaukee growing up in the Washington Highlands, attending Saint Sebastian grade school, Marquette High School and graduated from Marquette Medical School. In 1963, Bob established the orthopedics practice (McCabe, McDevitt and Haskell) where he remained a well-loved, devoted surgeon until his retirement in 2008. In 1967 Bob served 2 years as a Lt. Colonel in the Army stationed at Walter Reed Medical Center, where he received the Army Commendation Medal. One of the greatest joys in Bob's life was his 42 year affiliation with the Milwaukee Fire Department. The longest serving physician to date. In his retirement Bob enjoyed working on his farm with his horses, dogs, cats and his favorite: 2 miniature donkeys. Bob is survived by his loving nieces, nephews, in-laws and everyone he touched with his unique wit. He will be truly missed at the family Fourth of July parties. Visitation Monday, March 28, 2011, at the Funeral Home from 2PM until time of memorial service at 5PM. In lieu of flowers, Robert wishes for donations to "The Milwaukee Fallen Firefighters Memorial" (C/O Milwaukee Fire Historical Society, 711 W. Wells St., Milwaukee, WI 53233). Bob was an ardent fan of his hometown; from the Brewers to the architecture, he loved all things Milwaukee.

Dr McCabe did 3 of my knee surgeries one when i was only 16 he was a very special person in my life. Motivated me to take care and recently at age 48 i had a full replacement thanks to him it lasted that long. I had no idea he was in the Army i wished i would have spoken with him about this., i am a LTC in the Army Reserves, He was an awesome man and my heart is heavy tonight my mother sent me the obituary. Blessings to all of his family and friends it must be good to know he enjoyed his life.. and made a great contribution to many. I know he will be missed but he has made a lasting impact on the World. t€o the Family: My wife and I knew Bob, when I was Director ofStudent Activities at Marquette University, when he was a Med student. Helater served as our Orthopedist until he retired.
Bob was a delight to know as a friend. We spent more time telling stories than we did on our medical maladies when we visited him.
A frea man, a great sense of humor and a man of great wisdom.
We williss him' We hld him in high esteem.
