Ruby Markham Obituary

Markham, Ruby Maye Age 90. Passed away at Kindred Hearts Care Center in Green Lake on August 16, 2007. She was born on May 16, 1917, the daughter of Ferdinand and Ruby Grace (nee Fairchild) Batchelet in Delavan, WI. They were a pioneer family of Wisconsin from 1830 and settled in Horicon. She was united in marriage to Army Colonel Spencer Augustus Markam at St. Andrews Church in Delavan on September 20, 1947. He then preceded her in death on January 15, 1987. She received her degree in Education and Fine Arts from Lawrence University and UW-Madison. She worked as an Executive Secretary at Starite Industries for 7 years in Delavan, WI, UW-Oshkosh for 5 years as a Secretary, the State Investment Board in Madison for 5 years and UW-Madison Bascolm Hill for 5 years. She then retired from Probation and Parole in the Intake office and owned her own Antique business in Horicon after 20 years. She is known for collecting over 500 fans and dolls and lectures all over the country about them. She was the first person to administer Social Security in Walworth County. She is survived by her son, Bill (special friend, Janet Kirkpatrick) of Gurnee, IL, 2 sisters-in-law, Rosemary Reuschlein of Madison and Patricia Reese of Plano, TX, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Spencer and her brother, Ferdinand (Harriet) Batchelet. Funeral Services will be at 10AM on Thursday, August 23, 2007 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Green Lake with Father Phillip Krogman officiating. Friends and family may visit at the church on Thursday from 9AM until the time of services. Burial will be in the Oakhill Cemetery in Horicon.
