Dear Nancy, Brian, Jeff and family,
Because we spend six months in the U.P., we did not learn until our return tonight (when we read about a memorial in the Holy Cross newsletter) of Steve's passing. He was so lucky to have had your loving support all along, but especially these last few years. No man could have been more loved. We remember vividly how Steve took on the emergency needs of our AFS daughter Sohani when she arrived from Sri Lanka...in minutes he assessed her condition and medical history and prescribed exactly what was required. He loved solving problems and meeting people's needs. His many kindnesses to all he met, especially to neighbors, are legendary. We trust rich memories, your faith, and the love of family and friends will continue to uplift you.
Shalom, Susanne and Bill

It's so hard to think of a world without Steve. I'm pretty sure it was fourth grade when the Blatnik's moved in just a few doors down from my house. Steve was always the “brain” of our little neighborhood group.
A dear friend, who would help in almost any way, Steve was there to walk me home after finals at night, when there were some tense things happening in Madison. Oh how grateful my parents were (me too!) that his finals schedule kept him on campus.
I remember his phone call to Bob asking if he might give him a ride to Milwaukee that night (when his mom was in the last stages of cancer.) It was so sad, and we all just hugged each other. How Steve hoped she would be at your wedding. We all knew she was watching both of you from above on that special day. Steve was always such a loving son, husband, and dad...devoted to family.
We can never forget watching Steve as he showed us his exceptional surgical skills on our Thanksgiving turkey, while we were all practically falling down in hysterical laughter as he slowly, and deliberately, explained what was happening with the bones and muscles…and why the stuffing became unstuffed after being meticulously sewn into the bird (those darned dissolvable sutures!) Every time I hear “someone left the cake out in the rain…OH NOOOO” I can't help but laugh again, and again, about those memorable Thanksgivings in Oklahoma.
I'm so grateful Steve was in my life. After all that's how I met you, Nancy. Now we need to focus on you. The help you and Steve have had from Brian, Jeff and their families, well, it's been awesome to watch. Those of us, who were touched by Steve, realize what a tremendous loss this has been. The constant that “the boys” will be watching out for YOU helps US, every one of us.
Steve will be so missed. Love to you all,
Judy

My condolence to the Blatnik family and friends. Sometimes we go too soon. It's great to know we have God and his word that gives us the hope of seeing our loved ones again. Won't that be an awesome time! My hope for you is that you take the time to pray to God and allow him to see you thru
