Steven Uecker Obituary

Uecker, Steven Earl Born April 7, 1959, "went on ahead" April 6, 2012, after a brief illness surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Survived by, father Bob Uecker, mother Joyce Uecker; sisters Leann Ziemer and Sue Uecker; brother Bob Uecker, Jr., (Catherine); nieces Kelsey Ziemer, Nichole Uecker, Caela Uecker, Tori Bennett (Austin), Emily Uecker and many close relatives and dear friends. Steve was born in Milwaukee Wisconsin, attended Menomonee Falls East High School and upon graduation in 1977 headed west. His first stop was Vail, Colorado where he was a chef and expert skier. He moved to Bakersfield, California and opened a pizza parlor - Front Row Pizza. Soon he found his calling as a cowboy, where he proudly ranched for Scott and Jan Ball at Deer Creek Cattle, for Jack Shannon (son Bill) at Shannon Cattle and Citrus and for Noble Cattle. His love included his animals, entertaining, singing with his buddy Kenny, reciting cowboy poems, simply hanging out with friend Walt, cattle drives, brandings, rodeos, survival camping, hunting, fishing, as an expert animal behaviorist training horses and dogs, cooking, hosting guests and introducing them to the life of a cowboy; but most of all he valued his family and dear friends. Never without his cowboy hat and boots, always ready to join the party, his impersonations, good humor, never ending jokes and stories, colorful personality, contagious smile, warm hugs, and strong sense of loyalty to family and friends will be greatly missed by those who were blessed to have known him.

I’m sorry but I’m just learning about Steve’s passing. He and I were classmates for a year or two in Bowdon Georgia, I suppose during a time that Bob was with the Braves . I give my condolences to the Uecker family although they are certainly late.

Uecker family: We attended the Springville Rodeo last night and they did a beautiful tribute to Steve. He certainly was loved and respected by the cowboy community. They brought his riderless horse into the arena and expressed their grief at his passing and shared the joy of knowing him. They also said a beautiful "cowboy prayer" at the end. So sorry for your loss. He leaves many friends behind that will have a void in their life because of his passing.

I am so sorry for your loss and I will pray that God sends you His peace and comfort through this difficult time. I was a high school classmate of Steve's and his friendship and incredible sense of humor made those some very great years. I lost contact with him quite a while back but it sounds like he went on doing what he did best, bringing joy, fun and laughter. It was a blessing to have known him.

My condolenses to the Uecker family, I was one of the lucky people to know Steve. My heart has a pain from knowing he is past. I will always treasure the times in the Sierra Mountains, just kickin it on a ride to Maggie Lakes, or Gray Meadows with my best friend. The time he spent visiting me and my family before he went home, will always be in my mind, not knowing It would be the last time to see such a precious friend. Linda Hamilton, Shafter, Ca.

My deepest sympathies go out to the entire Uecker family. I was a classmate of Steve's at St Anthony Grade School and Meno Falls East High. We were great pals in 8th grade and I can still remember his smiling face and his wonderful sense of humor. I had lost contact with him long ago, but in reading his obit, it seems that he kept those attributes throughout his life. May you find comfort and peace during this difficult time of deep sorrow and know that he touched so many people's lives in such a fun and positive way!

I was an old grade school classmate of Steve's. Even in those early years Steve and I would joke and laugh constantly. He always had a smile on his face and he made my transition moving from Detroit to Menomomonee Falls bearable. I am very sad for your loss and I have so many fond memories of Steve. I know you all will miss him deeply.

Uecker Family,

Please know you are in the thoughts of many who were fortunate enough to know Steve from his ranch, in the valley, to the high-country of the Sierra Nevada. He had a great heart, a great laugh … he was a great person. The high-country will seem vacant awaiting his spring arrival. I do find some solace when I attempt to imagine how wonderful the Land where he now rides.

God bless.
