Thomas Ehr Obituary

Thomas P. Ehr

Our beloved TP, left Milwaukee peacefully for the final time on August 1, 2021 at the age of 93. TP was born September 12, 1927 on the eastside of Milwaukee, the youngest of eight children of Alma and Nicholas Ehr. He attended St. John's Grade School and High School before joining the military during WWII. After the war, he used the GI bill to attend Marquette University and then Marquette Law School. TP practiced law, focusing on real estate, trusts and estates, and general business law until he was 74 years old. He loved the practice of law and helping people, and was often heard telling clients "You can stop worrying, because now your problem is my problem." He met Yvette, his wife of 63 years, in their high school freshman English class when she fell in love with his beautiful voice reciting "Annabel Lee" - also her favorite poem.

TP enjoyed fishing "Up North" every summer with his friends, traveling throughout Europe and most of all, in his later years, escaping the cold Wisconsin winters (which he believed began in October and lasted until June) by spending them in Cave Creek, Arizona. He loved cacti, desert sunsets and the landscape of the West.

TP worked very hard to support his six children - making sure they all had excellent educations and a chance to attend college.

He was a superior turkey stuffer and carver - something he enjoyed doing with his four granddaughters.

He is survived by his six children; Tom, Raoul (Esme), Nic (Yalek Ho), Yvette (Ellis) Landau, Jon, and Gigi (Michael) Danisewicz; four granddaughters, Kaitlin (Alan) Arts, Hailey, Maddy and Yvette; two step grandchildren, Rachel (Joe Ersek) Landau and David Landau; and great grandchildren Ben, Evie and Grace Ersek and Charlie Arts.

The family would like to thank Marla Coder and Elizabeth Taylor for their kind and loving care, which brough TP companionship and comfort in his last two years of life.

TP will be missed by us all, but welcomed by his wife Yvette, who passed in 2015, and good friends Andy and Kay. The four of them will make wherever they are a more lively and merrier place.

Funeral services will be private.

TP was a great friend. We had many good lunches and dinners over the years. When my parents were in town, we always enjoyed spending time with TP and Yvette. He lived a great life and left a legacy of wonderful children and grandchildren.

TP, was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. Kind, gentle, strong of mind and spirit. He did not judge, just gave unconditionally to all lucky enough to call him friend. He will truly be missed, but never forgotten-
May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

I'm sorry to read of Tom's death and you have my sympathies. He and my dad Irving shared offices and practiced law together in downtown Milwaukee for many, many years and my father loved relating some of Tom's more swashbuckling exploits as a lawyer. Some of you might remember the sign in their waiting room that read "Honest Lawyers --- one flight up."

I worked in the office one summer and remember well the day my dad and Tom looked out the window and noticed that the American flag flying on top of city hall was upside down (a signal of distress). They decided to have some fun with this and Tom called the Mayor's office and said something like "I know with Henry Maier in charge the City Hall flag should probably be flying upside down every day, but is there something in particular about today we should know about?" I think they hung up on Tom but in a few minutes we watched the flag be lowered and then raised again - with the correct aspect.

Tom and my dad were still laughing about that at lunch.

TP taught me so much. He was so scary and gruff, but I soon realized that he was a real sweetie. We shared a wonderful friendship, from Real Estate to family.., I really loved him. God bless you TP!
