Sister Virgena Clark, RSM, age 89, died February 17, 2021 in Chicago.
Born in Madison, WI, she professed first vows in 1954, and final vows in 1959. As a Sister of Mercy for 67 years she served in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee for over 37 years, 6 as an elementary teacher and 30 + as a Director of Religious Education. The last 21 years were at St. Luke Parish, Brookfield, WI. She is preceded in death by her parents, Norine nee Morrissey & Frank Clark, brother Fr. Lawrence Clark, & sister, Margaret M. Snell. She is survived by her brother Ray M. (Marlene) Clark, 11 nieces, nephews and numerous relatives. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Sisters of Mercy, 3659 W. 99th St. Chicago, IL 60655 would be greatly appreciated. Virgena is a presence in my memory long after I lived with her in Laredo, TX. As she suffered a stroke while with us and we with her, together we shared what was to be the best for Virgena. The sharing was respectful being lovingly truthful. In the end, Virgena made the decision to return to Chicago where care could be better provided. She took care of her needs and still continued her presence of ministry anew.
I am grateful to Virgena for this example of selflessness in my life time.
