Walter Busby Obituary

Walter Whitcomb Busby, Jr.

Milwaukee - April 27, 1947 to June 24, 2021

Walter Whitcomb Busby, Jr., the second son of Walter Whitcomb Busby and Jean Fagan Busby, passed unexpectedly June 24th. He lost his brief battle with cancer at 74. We loved him for the true qualities that defined him as a man, husband, father, brother and uncle. His attitude toward life's challenges, fun, learning, traveling, and adventure defined his need to be himself.

After graduating from St. Thomas Military Academy in 1969, the world opened up opportunities. Walt (or Twig as his family called him) married, finished college and lived in Sarasota, Florida and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His love of nature predominated his life - from skiing the slopes of Holy Hill to surfing the waves of Cocoa Beach, Florida. Twig's love of the earth and water directed his natural desire to forsake mundane jobs in order to excel at his natural gifts. For over 20 years, his restoration of antique furniture and working with wood provided a lifestyle of success and happiness. Twig's Restoration Shop in Delafield, Wisconsin, convinced his family and friends he had found his true calling. Twig's other passion, hunting and fishing, introduced him to many friends and places for years of enjoyment and camaraderie.

Retiring from The Restoration Shop, Twig enjoyed a quiet life in Killen, Alabama where he enjoyed his hobby of train collecting and life on the water. A hunting enthusiast from his early years, Twig traveled to Manitoba, Canada, and joined a favorite family for over 20 years to share the beauty of nature and its wildlife. Joining him on every bird hunt, his labradors over the years gave him much love, devotion and companionship. Walter was a man who felt intensely, believed strongly and loved devotedly. We will miss him every day. He is survived by his daughter, Kate, his siblings, Jeffrey Chandler, Mary Star and Diana Lee and many loving cousins, nephews and nieces. A memorial for his passing will be forthcoming in Milwaukee.

We were so sorry to hear of Walter's passing. Our sincere condolences to your family. Dan and Walter worked together in the Restoration Shop for many years. We enjoyed hanging out with Walter at flea markets, antique shows, on the East Side, the Horicon Marsh and many other outings. Walter and Dan's love for antiques kept them connected after Walter moved to Alabama. We always anticipated his visit to Wisconsin on his way home from hunting in Canada. We sincerely would like to be part of the celebration of his life that is forthcoming in Milwaukee.
