William Code Obituary

Of Milwaukee/Glen Haven, WI and Mission, TX - William "Papa" Code, age 84, left this earth on January 27, 2005 to be with his Lord and Savior. He was born on January 21, 1921 in Bradford, IL, the son of William and Edna (Ryan) Code. On July 29, 1943, he married Henrietta "Nell" Nellis. He proudly served as a pilot and an instructor in the United States Marine Air Corp during World War II. He worked in the insurance industry - the majority of his career with Catholic Family Life Insurance in Milwaukee. He was given many awards and honors for his service with the National Fraternal Congress, Historical Society and the Knights of Columbus, but the honor of being a grandfather was his proudest. He had countless hours of enjoyment in good-natured ribbing with his children, grandchildren, and freinds. His passion for sports continued throughout his life. He thoroughly enjoyed being an usher for the University of Texas - Pan Am Women's and Men's Basketball teams. His wife of 51 years preceded him home on October 4, 1994 as did his parents, brothers Don and James, sisters, Catherine Purtscher-Blaisdell and Mary Jean Smith.

His legacy continues with one son, Bill (Chris) Code, Milwaukee, three daughters, Ann (Vernon) White, Glen Haven, WI, Mary (Bill) Johnson, Elm Grove, WI and Patricia (Richard) Fish, Paddock Lake, WI; 20 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, a brother Phil (Liz) Code, Buda, IL, many nieces and nephews. His friends and cherished neighbors at Bentsen Grove and one very special lady dear to him and very much appreciated by his children, Bunny Coder of Mission, Texas.

Memorials may be made in Bill's name to the University of Texas-P Bronco Athletic Fund Raiser, c/o Raul Bitancourt Department, 1201 W. University Drive, Edinburg, TX 78541.

To my grandfather the man who loved to work on everyone. Even the last days of his life. I am so glad he was my grandpa (papa). He will be missed very much but he told me this that when my folks get older and I go to vist them to move everything and change everything in there house just like they did to him, you got it grandpa I will take care of that for you. Love you very much and very happy to have your name. I do feel sorry for him because Nanny will have him back in shape in no time.

From my youngest days I remember Uncle Bill telling me he was all "Muscle, Gristle and Wildcat". I came to know that he had a great heart. He will leave a hole here that will be very hard to fill. I am so sad, but I know that heaven is a more fun place now.
