The son of Irish immigrants, after high school he enlisted in the Navy and spent three and a half years most of which was on the USS Fremont in the Pacific during the second world war. He went to DePaul University on the G.I. Bill and graduated with a degree in accounting. He worked for the Chicago Carton Company which became Waldorf which became Hoerner Waldorf which became Champion which became International Paper and finally became Waldorf again. He started as an office boy and ultimately became a Senior Vice President in charge of consumer packaging plants in Milwaukee, Chicago, Keokuk, Iowa and Boston. When he retired in 1990, he was the longest tenured employee at Waldorf. He was also a great athlete. Emmett dedicated his life to his wife and their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Both he and his wife were born and raised on the South side of Chicago in large, loving families. In their married lives, they lived in Chicago, Palos Heights, Illinois; Edina, Minnesota, River Hills, Wisconsin and Bonita Bay, Florida. Emmett and Pat were terrific ballroom and square dancers. He once shot a hole in one. For years he was one of the Irish Mafia golfing group at Ozaukee Country Club. Special thanks to Dr. Mark Chelmowski, his nurse, Cathy, Dr. Marc Rozanski and the staff of Horizon Homecare & Hospice, Inc. who took care of Emmett during his long, steady decline, especially Vera, Jodie, Ericka, Debbie and Tina.
