William "Shorty" Hilger

1925 - 2015

Hilger, William "Shorty" Longtime Hartland resident passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the age of 90. He was born in Lannon, WI to parents William and Amelia (nee Stark) Hilger on November 14, 1925. Bill attended Hartland High School until joining the Navy at age 17. He proudly served in New Guinea during WWII and was an active member of the Hartland American Legion Flanagan Dorn Post 294 and the Hartland VFW Marshall Johnson Post 5158. He worked for Alloy Products Corp. in Waukesha for 45 years until his retirement. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing softball. He was an avid Packer, Brewer and Badger Fan. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Mary (nee Dahlke), his children Margy (Dave) Zwieg and Tony (Laurie) Hilger and his grandson Nick Zwieg. He is further survived by his siblings Joe (Teresa) Hilger, Rita (Bud) Ferris, Sharon (Bernie) Stuettgen, sister-in-law Jean Hilger, brother-in-law and sister-in- law Jerry and Janice Dahlke and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Fred and Ruth Dahlke and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 6 sisters. His gift of gab will always be remembered. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at St. Charles Catholic Church, 313 Circle Drive, Hartland. Final rest will be in St. Charles Cemetery. Visitation will be held at church from 10:00 AM until the time of the Mass.
