William Muth Obituary

Muth, William A., Jr. William Anthony Muth, Jr., 75, of Carmel, IN and formerly of Brookfield, WI passed away from complications of Alzheimer's disease on September 27, 2012. We can be comforted that his devout faith and love of the Lord have taken him to a peaceful place. If Heaven ever needed a Public Works Director, Heaven now has one of the best. William (Bill) was born in Milwaukee, WI on November 1, 1936. Bill received his civil engineering degree in 1958 from Marquette University, joined the Naval Civil Engineering Corps, and was stationed in Oakland, California. Bill and his wife, Mary, were married for 53 wonderful years. Bill served two years with the Naval Civil Engineering Corps in California before moving back to Wisconsin, where he joined the Public Works Department in Brookfield. Bill served 38 years with the City of Brookfield and was Director of Public works for 36 years (1963 - 1999). Bill's many years with the City of Brookfield left an impression on many - his good humor, quips and his "Muth-isms" may never be forgotten. He brought humor to many meetings at City Hall, or, as Bill referred to it: "Silly Hall". Bill and his wife Mary were active members at St. Dominic's Catholic Church for 49 years. Bill is survived by his wife, Mary, sons, William III (Mary) and James (Martha), daughter, Kathleen (Michael Hildebrand), 10 grandchildren: Kelly, Sarah, Robert, Mary, Michael, Timothy, David, Stephen, Daniel and Alison, brothers, Thomas (Barbara) and Robert (Sharon), and sister, Marilyn (Sue) Nettesheim. Bill was preceded in death by his parents William Anthony and Marion Mueller Muth. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 5 at St. Dominic's Catholic Church in Brookfield, WI. Visitation will precede the mass at 10:00 AM at St. Dominic's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted by St. Dominic's Catholic Church. Arrangements are being handled by Harder funeral home in Brookfield, and by Bussell and Bell in Carmel.

Dear Mary and Family,
So sorry to hear of Bill's passing. Will always remember his wit, sense of humor and especially his Donald Duck imitation. As the oldest cousin, we all looked up to and respected Bill. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the entire Muth family.

Dear Mary and family, I was so saddened to hear about Bill's death. You and Bill welcomed us to the St. Dominic family many years ago when our children were very young. We have moved away from St. Dom's, but have wonderful memories of the two of you.
Love,
Mary Beth and Ron Anderson

Please accept my sympathies.

I talked to Bill many times before being elected alderman and a few times afterwards. He was the very model of friendly public service and an endless source of knowledge about all aspects of Brookfield's Public Works operations. He served as an inspiration to us all.

Scott A. Berg, 5th District Alderman, City of Brookfield
