William Wuerl Obituary

Wuerl, William Richard Rick Wuerl, born June 28, 1944, passed away May 8, 2013. Growing up in Oconomowoc, "Rick" "Bill" liked going to The Kiltie and spending time on Lac La Belle with his siblings and friends. Rick served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, from February 1969 through December, 1971, graduating from the U.S. Army Intelligence School. He graduated from Marquette University and University of Wisconsin - Whitewater. Rick worked in the Commercial Insurance field for over 37 years, starting with Sentry Insurance in Stevens Point, WI. Eventually, Rick worked in Grand Rapids, Michigan for Crosby and Henry, and retired from Pinnacle Insurance Partners in 2013. Through his various positions in insurance, Rick gained the trust and friendship of many businesses and individuals in the Grand Rapids area. Rick loved tennis and golf along with spending time and taking trips with his children and grandchildren. He took great pride in taking care of his yard - he loved to cut the grass. He watched the Green Bay Packers with passion, and sometimes frustration. He enjoyed reading - short stories, science fiction, historical memoires, etc. and watching political commentary. He called himself a "strange duck", and enjoyed joking around with everyone close to him. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothea (Bobsie) Wuerl, and William Wenzel Wuerl, and his dear friend since age four, Richard Woboril. He is loved and missed by his wife, Katherine (Dallman), children Wende Randall (Greg) and Trevor Esrael (Tonya), Matthew Dallman (Hannah), Christopher Dallman (Josh Pohja), grandchildren Abby, Robbie, Ellie and Kiera Esrael, Emma and Olivia Randall, Twyla, Izzi, Oona, and Marla Dallman. He was a caring big brother to Pat Wuerl, Barbara Mahnke, Linda Fredrich, Cyndi Rollefson, and Bob Wuerl, and a proud uncle of his nephews, niece and godchildren. His visitation will be on May 15, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM with burial following in his hometown of Oconomowoc, where he loved to visit and reminisce. The family is being served by Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Service in Oconomowoc. A memorial luncheon for friends and business acquaintances in Grand Rapids, MI, will be held May 20. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to God's Kitchen, (303 Division Ave., Grand Rapids, MI 49503) where Rick volunteered for many years.

To Rick's Family, my sincere, sincere condolences to you all. To our fellow insurance friends; we lost a great friend, mentor and colleague. I had the distinct pleasure of calling on Rick as a company representative for over 15 years while at both Crosby & Henry and at Pinnacle Insurance. I will fondly remember his friendly smile, soft laughter, humbleness as well as his objectiveness to helping the many accounts he served. May God grant you all peace and comfort knowing he has been chosen to be one of the bright stars in heaven looking upon us.
