Winifred Taft Ryhn

Ryhn, Winifred Taft Age 81, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2009. She was born on April 9, 1928, in Sparta, WI, to Alyce (Blakely) and Walter Lars Taft. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Jeanette (Trebor) Tichenor and Virginia (Robert) Sandor. Surviving her are her loving and beloved husband Douglas Ryhn; brother Walter L. Taft Jr., Glendora, CA; children Robin (David Hueppchen) Campbell, Plymouth, WI, Scott (Tove) Campbell, Oslo, Norway and Ann (Greg) Wasson, Pinole, CA; stepdaughters Erica Ryhn McQueen, Phoenix, AZ and Kristina (Jim Harman) Ryhn, Seattle, WA; granddaughters Nora and Ida Campbell of Oslo; stepgrandson Gregory Harman of Seattle, and step-great-grandson Hunter Hueppchen of Plymouth. She will also be greatly missed by Ileece Clark, Tanyada Nichols and Alonja Vann, who helped Doug care for her in later years. Wini will be remembered for her vibrant and theatrical spirit, her love of travel and entertaining and her wide ranging knowledge of poetry, the arts and languages. Her talents as an actress, radio and TV announcer, producer, writer, cook and seamstress, to name but a few, were appreciated by many. In Milwaukee, her home town since 1965, she is remembered for roles at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater and elsewhere, her radio show "Schnibbles" on WUWM, and hosting and writing for the first ever "Channel 10 Auction," an event with which she was involved for many years. Wini's humor, warmth and the courage she showed in the face of life's adversities will continue to live as an inspiration to the many who knew and will deeply miss her.
