Cindy Bowhay Obituary

The prayer that is most relevant in this situation is; "God, please grant me the SERENITY to accept the things I cannot change, the COURAGE to change the things I can and the WISDOM to know the difference." Those were the last words Cindy and I wrote one day before Jesus came and took one very special Angel home. Cindy passed peacefully at two in afternoon on Friday September 6th, 2019. She was surrounded by family and close friends during the days leading up to her passing.

Two years ago, Cindy and I received a call that shattered our dream-come-true-life. She had been diagnosed with cancer and it was stage four. One of the first things she said was, "If I pass away, I don't want anyone to say I lost my battle with cancer. My battle isn't with cancer. My battle is keeping my faith with God while the cancer takes me." And she kept her faith up until her last breath.

Cindy, kept active with our business as much as possible because she loved working with the whole community. We both have so enjoyed being part of so many family's lives for the past 31 years. We have enjoyed watching the many kids that have worked for us grow up and become successful members of the community and around the world. Even in pain she never complained as she spent time in the greenhouse talking with the customers and always loved it.

Cindy and I wanted to thank you all from our very soul for all of the prayers that have gotten us through the last two years. To those of you that participated in the early fund raising there are not words to explain what it did for Cindy and the whole family. God, is good and he has always provided everything we have needed.

Cindy, wanted to stay here more than anything and loved everyone so much. She wanted all of you to know she was sorry she had to go and was so thankful to have been able to have lived in such a caring, loving community.

Cindy and I were very, very thankful to have such a wonderful medical team here in Juneau, Dr. Hernandez at Valley Medical led the Team. The BRH was so clean and the staff so kind it made us so proud it was in our community.

We know how many lives and hearts were touched by Cindy's kindness and we want to celebrate that legacy of love together. Cindy wanted everyone to feel welcome to attend. Please, join us for a celebration of life for Cindy Louise Bowhay at Centennial Hall on this Saturday, September 14th, 2019 at 3 pm with a reception to follow.

Cindy Bowhay was born in Roseburg, OR. She spent her childhood in Bremerton, WA. She is also an alumni of Milo Adventist Academy in Wisconsin. She is survived by her loving parents David and Caroline Newman. Her three older brothers, David, Daniel, and Terry Newman. Her younger sister, Tina Daris. Her forever faithful husband and partner in everything she did, Steven Bowhay. And her grateful children, some by birth, some not. Her five sons, Brandon Bowhay, Sean Smith, Zachary Bowhay, Wesley Bowhay, and Tristen Hunter. Her one daughter, Melissa Bowhay, two daughter-in-laws, Cari Bowhay, and Jolene Smith. She is also survived by her beautiful grandchildren whom she loved so dearly: Violet Bowhay, Steven B. Bowhay, Bruer Smith, Arbor Smith, and Willow Smith. And numerous relatives and close friends.

In lieu of flowers or other goods, Cindy wanted donations sent to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital.

I live by that prayer "God grant me". May you find peace in how many lives Cindy touched. We didn't have the opportunity to know Cindy, but when we did meet her at our 20th class reunion, I knew she was a lovely person. You both are. God Bless. Love, Yvonne and Jeff Ayers

My heartfelt sadness for this wonderful family that lost a wonderful mother for her children. My grandson Kayden was a good friend of her son Wesley and I am so appreciative of her warm open arms for kids that needed a loving space. You will be missed deeply Cindy.

I loved talking with Cindy when coming to the greenhouse. She has been a great contributor of beauty to our community...not only with the beautiful gardens she helped create, but her kind and smiling personality. I don't think I ever saw Cindy when she wasn't smiling and happy...even during this past summer when you new she wasn't feeling as well as she would like. She recognized every customer that came into the greenhouse. She was genuinely happy to see you. The community of Juneau morns with you. We as a community have lost a wonderful woman. The heavens have gained a blessed angel. God bless you with peace and wonderful memories of such a beautiful woman. She will be missed by so many.

Losing Cindy leaves a definite whole in the heart of this community. She added such color, light, and beauty with her loving and giving spirit, positive 'can do' attitude and unassuming demeanor. She was always going above and beyond to help out. Never seeking the spotlight. Happy to be the quiet backbone of so many successful events. I think of the countless ways she contributed to endless fund raisers to help support education, learning, sports, arts, you name it. Or donated use of flowers, time and energy to brighten up community events. I'm so thankful for the time she was here with us. Truly a beautiful person inside and out. She'll live on in so many hearts and the beauty she shared.

Cindy, we were so blessed to have you and your family as part of our lives, it was wonderful watching Melissa and Kaia grow up as friends and I will never forget how much you meant to Kaia during all of the years she worked summers for you at the Gardens. She was so proud to earn our Christmas tree every year and it was always more special knowing where and how we got it as well as the calendars that graced our kitchen wall all year long. You will always evoke a fond smile as you live forever in our memories.

We don't know the why this happened but we know God and angels are walking with each of you as you greave. Ciindy always had a smile, loving words for those around her. Prayers of thanksgiving for knowing an angel on earth. Cindy allowed the faith of a mustard seed in my young son to be planted at the green house. Watching his faith grow over the years, I'm reminded of her kindness and generosity often.
May the Lord keep you and hold until we meet again.
