Diana Daniels Brown Obituary

April 17, 1950 – May 16, 2015

Diana G. Daniels Brown passed away May 16, 2015, at the age of 65 in Palmer, Alaska. Her unexpected passing was the result of heart and kidney failure due to a septic infection.

Diana was born on April 17, 1950 to William and Velma Daniels in London, Kentucky. Though born in Kentucky, when Diana spoke of her childhood it was always stories of her time in Olathe, Kansas she shared, in particular tales of the turtles with which she would play. Her father's work took the family to places like Panama, Nepal and Alaska until the family finally settled in Maryland.
Shortly after high school Diana went on to become a licensed practical nurse. Eventually she felt the call of Alaska once more and returned in the early '80s; this time calling Juneau her home. She found work as an LPN at Family Practice Physicians then moved on to work in the infirmary at Lemon Creek Correctional Center. This is where she met Ed Brown who was working as a corrections officer. They were married in 1992. She loved to joke how she met her husband in prison. Diana's career was cut short when her multiple sclerosis began causing numbness in her fingers which inhibited her ability to complete delicate tasks.
Upon her mother's death in Maryland in 2003 Diana moved her father to Juneau. While he resided with Ed and Diana she returned to her medical roots, providing daily care for her father until his death in 2008. The next year Diana and Ed moved to Palmer, Alaska so they could be closer to family.

Diana was preceded in death by her parents William Daniels and Velma (Wood) Daniels, her mother-in-law Francis Reilly, father-in-law John Brown, and mother-in-law Elaine Brown. She is survived by her husband Edward Brown of Palmer, AK, her daughter, Jennifer (Westrom) McCarty and son-in-law Shawn McCarty of Anchorage, AK, granddaughter Lydia McCarty of Coeur d'Alene, ID, and three brothers-in-law Kevin Brown (Kristi), Russell Brown and James Brown.

Diana will be remembered for her kindness, her abundance of love to give, capacity for forgiveness, and that twinkle in her eyes. Patriotic to her core, Diana never missed an opportunity to express her respect and admiration for those who served. Animals held a very special place in her heart, if she could have she would have taken in many more than she did.

There will be a Celebration of Life to honor Diana on June 12 between 3:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Brown's home, 2141 N. Broadway, Palmer, Alaska. Within the next couple of months the family will schedule a service at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Juneau.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to either The Diana D. Brown Memorial Fund with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society http://www.nationalmssociety.org/ or to Friends of Pets at http://www.friendsofpets.org/donate.html.

We were shocked to hear of Diana's passing. Diana was a wonderful nurse who really cared about her patients. My husband and I were both lucky to have been under her care, years ago. She was such a sweet lady with a wonderful attitude. Rest In Peace dear Diana.

I met Diana as my nurse at Family Practice in Juneau. She had a wonderful sense of humor and kept me laughing during some stressful times. Her own health issues did not dampen her spark and spunk. My condolences to her family. She will be missed.
