I don't know the Sen. Dick Eliason family personally but I often heard of him since I was a young adult back in the late '70s, '80s, and beyond. I used to live in Sitka with my mother and I wouldn't doubt that she and my stepfather talked with him at times and now I live in Juneau working for the State of Alaska in a job that I enjoy. My condolences to the Eliason family and I want to express my gratitude for all the hard work and positive energy that Sen. Dick Eliason did for the Southeast communities.

Farewell Captain; we never got that big king salmon we talked about so often.
A good man.

I was very saddened to learn of the passing of Mr. Eliason. My father was Harvey Williams Sr. a very good friend of Dicks. They were involved with the American Legion years ago. Several years ago my brother-in-law, Virgil Liberty Sr. and my father saved Dick by pulling him out of the water at Silver Bay when his boat sunk. Since then Dick was closer to my father. Both Virgil Sr and my Dad have passed away. I seem to remember that my father said that Dick always wore a survival suit after that incident. My condolences to Dick's family from the family of Harvey Williams Sr.; Esther Liberty, Marion Berry, Joanne Chartrand, Harvey Williams Jr. and Walleen Whitson.
