Victoria Chauvin Obituary
Victoria L. Chauvin, a resident of Houma, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at the age of 70. She was a 1973 graduate of Terrebonne High School and had two careers. The first began right after high school-she worked at South Central Bell, dispatching installers and repair personnel. Following her heart, Vickie left that job in the late 1980's to attend Nicholls State University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in social science education. Victoria taught at Grand Caillou Middle School and South Terrebonne High School, teaching various social sciences classes. Her students found Ms. Chauvin to be an excellent teacher, imparting knowledge and also helping to instill character traits in her students that would serve them well in life.
Among Victoria's hobbies were cooking (where she loved trying out new recipes in addition to cooking her tried-and-true specialties), reading (especially "trashy" romance novels), and playing online multiplayer role-playing games, such as World of Warcraft. Additionally, Vickie enjoyed travelling with her friend Jackie Lirette and uncle George Pursell. Some of her favorite trips included Hawaii, the Ozarks, Las Vegas, and repeated trips to Gulf Shores, AL and Pensacola, FL.
Victoria is survived by her sisters Lisa M. Chauvin of Rotonda West, Florida, and Andree Chauvin Souders of Boulder, CO. She is also survived by her beloved uncle, George Pursell of Metairie, as well as many extended family members.
Victoria was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara P. Chauvin, who was Vickie's best friend. Also preceding Victoria in death is her father, Edward J. Chauvin, Jr, and her much-loved canine children Cindy and Toonie. Finally, Victoria is preceded in death by her husband, David W. Gautreaux.
The family would like to thank the following people: Sherry and Mike Theriot and Carol and Monique Bascle, neighbors. Without their help, Vickie would not have been able to live independently as long as she did. A special "thank you" goes to Jackie Lirette, Vickie's friend of almost 50 years. During the last several years of Vickie's life, Jackie regularly visited Vickie in the long-term care facility in which she lived. Additionally, Jackie shopped for Vickie on a regular basis during those years, making Vickie's time there much more pleasant. Finally, thanks goes out to Gary Labat, Jr for also visiting Vickie regularly during those last few years.
Victoria's kind, giving heart, compassionate nature, wicked sense of humor, and loving personality will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
In accordance with Victoria's wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service held.
