VanBrussel, Donald Paw Paw Donald Bertrand VanBrussel, age 79, of Paw Paw, passed away at his home on February 14, 2021. He was born May 22, 1941 in Battle Creek, the son of the late Donald VanBrussel and Doris Robb. He started working at Portage Public Schools while still a student, graduating in 1959. He married Judy Oswalt on October 19, 1963 and they celebrated 55 years of marriage before she preceded him in death November 19, 2018. Donald owned and operated a portable sawmill and after retiring from Portage Schools, woodworking became his full time job and passion. He could always be found in his woodshop, reading mystery magazines, sneaking a cigarette or watching crime shows while building anything anyone wanted. He was affectionately known as "PaPa" and "Skunk", for the bad haircuts his wife gave him. Donald is survived by his children, Stephen (Amy) VanBrussel, Kevin (Victoria) VanBrussel, Monica (Alan) Marler and Casey VanBrussel, grandchildren, Ethan and Aidan VanBrussel, Deven Kovell, Evynn VanBrussel and Chase, Andrew and Avery Marler, his sister, Vivian (Doug) Blakemore along with many nieces and nephews and his cat, Uno. "You finally won Dad" There will be a visitation held Saturday, February 20, 2021, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, 502 West Michigan Ave, Paw Paw, where a funeral service will commence at 12:00 p.m. Cremation will follow. Don was a Classmate in the Class of 1959 at Portage High School. He was one of those that was always rather quiet, but you were aware that he was there. To Don's Family, sorry for your lose.
