Patsy Scutella Obituary

Patsy "Pat" Frank Scutella, 79, of Warren, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
Pat was a man whose strength was quiet but unmistakable. Firm but fair, principled in all he did, and known as a man of few words, he led by example rather than proclamation. Whether in the classroom, the school hallways, or around the family table, he was a steady and guiding light to those who knew and loved him. His presence carried calm authority, his advice was thoughtful and measured, and his greatest pride was always his family.
Pat was born on November 14, 1946, in Kane, Pennsylvania, where he was born the oldest child of Dominic and Mary Zampogna Scutella. From an early age, he carried the quiet responsibility of being the eldest, a role that would shape his lifelong devotion to family and community. He graduated from Kane Area High School in 1964, where he was a member of the Rifle Club. He continued his education at Clarion University, graduating in 1968 with a B.S. in Secondary Education, and was a proud member of the Theta XI fraternity.
Education became not just Pat's profession, but his calling. For thirty-six years, he served the Warren County School District with dedication and integrity, shaping the lives of generations of students. Much of that time was spent teaching social studies at Youngsville High School, where he advised the United Nations and Yearbook groups.
Committed to growth in his profession, Pat later earned two Master's Degrees in History and Public Administration, where his steady leadership and deep respect for students and staff earned him admiration throughout the district. He served as Assistant Principal at Eisenhower High School, Principal at Lander and Sugar Grove Elementary Schools, Principal at Warren Area High School, and concluded his career as Principal at Beaty Warren Middle School. In every role, Pat carried himself with the same quiet authority and fairness that defined his character.
On February 12, 1972, Pat married the love of his life, Gwendolynn Marie Nosel, in Emanuel United Church of Christ in Warren. Their 54 years of marriage were a testament to partnership, devotion, and shared joy. Following his retirement, Pat and Gwenn spent fifteen winters in Bradenton, Florida, where they delighted in attending Pittsburgh Pirates Spring Training games. A loyal Pirates fan, Pat also faithfully followed the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State football.
Retirement brought treasured time with family and many memorable trips. Together with their growing family, Pat and Gwenn traveled to Disney World, Lancaster, Deep Creek, Hershey Park, Berkeley Springs, and the Chautauqua Institution-places that became the setting for laughter, stories, and cherished family traditions.
Pat and Gwenn were proud supporters of local athletics and charities. Pat was a member of the Eagles Club, Elks Club, Sons of Italy and Conewango Club. He also supported the Warren Sports Boosters, the Warren County Historical Society, and the Struthers Library Theatre.
Pat loved the outdoors. In his younger years he was an avid archer, muzzleloader hunter, and fisherman who tied his own flies. He shared a particularly special bond with his father-in-law and dear friend, George, who taught him carpentry and gardening. In later years, "PopPop" found great joy tending container gardens with his granddaughters and sharing friendly garden comparisons with his beloved neighbor, Denny.
One of Pat's greatest joys was the camaraderie of hunting camp in Cherry Grove. The friendships forged there, along with the time spent sharing the tradition with his son Jeff, remained among his most treasured memories.
Yet above all else, Pat's life was defined by his devotion to his family. He celebrated their accomplishments, supported their dreams, and quietly stood beside them through every season of life. His wisdom, steadiness, and love were a constant presence-a guiding light that will continue to shape their lives for generations.
In addition to his parents, Pat was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Scutella, and his niece, Victoria Haslett.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Gwenn; his daughters, Jennifer Scutella of Imperial, PA, and Heather Wees (Matt Chaney) of Beaver Falls, PA; and his son, Jeff (Stephanie) Scutella of Warren, PA. He is also survived by his sister, Christine (Mark) Haslett of Warren, PA; six grandchildren, Sierra Kovalchik (Charlie) of Johnstown, PA, Chelsea Hoffman (Nate) of Warren, PA, Andrew Wees of Warren, PA, and Eliza, Julia, and Anika Scutella of Warren, PA; and three great-grandsons, Theo and Knox Kovalchik of Johnstown, PA and Miles Hoffman of Warren, PA.
He is further survived by brothers-in-law Greg (Patti) Nosel of Edinboro, PA, Dennis (Sheryl) Nosel of Warren, PA, and Tom (Cathy) Nosel of Greenback, VA; sisters-in-law Susan Nosel (Alan Teconchuk) of Warren, PA and Kathy Scutella of Fairview, PA; his special cousin, Mary Rose Scutella of Wexford, PA; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, PA on Monday, March 9, 2026, from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A funeral service will follow there on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 11:00am, with the Rev. Melissa McLean, officiating. Interment will be at Warren County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Our Children fund through the First Methodist Church, 200 Market Street, Warren, PA. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.lewisfuneralhomeinc.com., or on our Facebook page.

Yesterday

What a beautiful description of Pat! Pat led Beaty with a quiet firm but fair demeanor. Once you got to know him you realized what a truly caring man he was. I will remember him fondly as having a sweet tooth as bad as mine! May his memory be a blessing and may angels lead him home!
