Alan Attkisson Obituary
July 25, 1947 - September 26, 2025
Wichita, Kansas - Alan Wayne Attkisson, 78, of Wichita, KS, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2025. Born in Wichita on July 25, 1947, to Samuel and Margaret (Hardin) Attkisson, Alan spent most of his life in his hometown, where he developed his love for art and good conversation. A graduate of Wichita State University, he went on to work as a graphic commercial artist for Beech Aircraft, then Raytheon, where for 35 years, he applied his creativity and unique vision until retiring in the early 2000s. Alan saw the world differently from most people and embodied both wisdom and playfulness. He had a teasing sense of humor, a fiery yet calm spirit, and eyes that sparkled with insight and mischief. He loved to question assumptions, draw his own conclusions, and live a life of careful thought and authenticity. He could talk to anyone about anything at any time and never liked playing by other people's rules. He was a man of many passions and collections; he was an Eagle Scout, an avid card player and a collector of hats, stories, rocks, and friends, among other things. He was also deeply generous, always ready to share his wit, time, and company.
Alan is survived by his partner of 30 years, Kathryn Ware; daughters, Anna Attkisson and Michelle (Art) Lohrengel; grandchildren, Morgan and Dalton; brother, Robert Attkisson (Becky); nieces, Shauna (Cory) Smith, Erin Attkisson; great nephew, Dylan; great niece, Sloan, and many friends who cherished his humor and perspective. At home, he was rarely without the loyal companionship of his beloved dog, Sidney.
Alan's life was a rich tapestry of love, laughter, and curiosity. His presence will be deeply missed but remembered with love and gratitude by all who knew him.
A funeral service for Alan will be held Monday, October 6, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Devorss Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary, 201 South Hydraulic, Wichita, KS 67211. A graveside service will occur Tuesday, October 7, 2025 from 1 p.m. at Hepler Cemetery, 1150-1198 KS-3, Hepler, KS 66746.
In lieu of flowers memorial to KETCH, 1006 E. Waterman St., Wichita, KS 67211.

My sympathy to Alan´s family and friends. I attended the service today. Kay Waller did a wonderful sharing interesting actions and fun things that Alan said over the years. The photos -slide show was special to see. I enjoyed seeing Alan with family. The Solo by Morgan was beautiful. I hope the service was a comfort and brought peace to family and friends. Kelly Womack
